A a nutter in a 16valve calibra who thought he'd have a go up in Northumberland near Bedlington (he felt the need to come past me at 120 on a B road to make some kind of point) then pulled into a bus stop to wait but I didn't lower myself...

B an eejit in a 3 series on the A1 who really didn't quite know what he was dealing with.

C an audi RS4 which really was a rev-limiter business (esp in slightly iffy conditions) & entirely another matter in 2nd gear - those things are KWIK...

Anybody else had a good week?

Just the usual array of diesel Astra vans and 1.2 Novas. If it brings a ray of sunshine into their otherwise depressing lives to indulge themselves in a 1/4 mile run-up and overtake on a blind bend, well let them. Anyway, there is nothing more satisfying than allowing them to pull in infront, then immediately negate their moment of glory by blowing them away in quite spectacular fashion! (All within the appropriate speed limit you understand )

In all seriousness, this time of year is prime TVR pranging time! Frosty mornings, 320bhp, rear-wheel drive and an attempt to keep up with your average Jap-taxi rally derived turbo nutter bas**rd on the way to work can very easily end in tears! Choose your moments carefully and stay safe! Here endeth the lesson.

Oh, almost forgot. Drove home making 'quick progress' behind a Clio 172 tonight. Followed in trail as he overtook a rather tardy Diesel Passat but couldn't resist staying on the right and blowing him away as well before pulling in.

OK OK, 'pick on someone your own size' and all that but I just couldn't resist it. Didn't manage to open much in the way of clear road in front of him though, even over a few miles ... Exchanged a respectful wave with the chap as I turned off a short while later.

well ... I was nursing a sh1t box Saxo hire car round Crete's bowel loosening coast roads. Mountain goats would sh1t themselves on these hairpins. Anyway, some silly cow with a phone surgically attached to her ear decided to glue her wikkid Yaris to my boot lid.

Fortunately i had already discovered one longer bend with good visibility which I could overcook safely, so I didn't slow down and used full width of the road to aim at the apex and executed a truly childish understeer manouevre (not that exciting as the Saxo gives up in a corner at about 3mph). Needless to say bimbo followed me in ... and came out of it white-faced with both hands on wheel and phone nowhere in sight. Cheerful wave from me as i buggered off. Hahaha, hands across the water sister ... not.

Hallelujah! Vmax - wise words indeedy. A quick squirt of adrenaline/testosterone (and whatever the girlie's have instead of the latter) can be one's undoing on cold tyres, foggy windscreen and a right foot that's too cold to handle sensitive application of pressure.

I love it if I'm being harrased by a astramax or some fool in a repmobile and I'm approaching a corner I know well. I like to lull them into a false sense of security by coasting in, knowing that the entry speed in my car (an S2000) is getting close to buttock clenching, so must therefore be browntrouser for the bloke behind (especially if its a transit). Its funny catching a glimpse in the mirror of them getting a little (sometimes a lot) out of shape...

Yeah, absolutely hilarious until they understeer onto the other side of the road and hit someone coming the other way head on ...

Sorry to sound like such a misery, but I seriously believe that we (the drivers of all performance cars) have a duty of care not to provoke the pondlife that attempt to drive at similar speeds in completely unsuitable vehicles (astras, transits, and all hire cars).

As I have said before, there are plenty of opportunities to put them back in their place without leading them to jeopardise the safety of anyone else on the road. If they wipe themselves out, well, that's Darwinism.

Couldn't agree more... I have experienced too many idiots 'driving' sup'd up nothings who think it good fun to try and climb in my boot whenever they see me. Do they honestly think that they're proving something? There is a reason they all have major driving offences on their licenses!

So this....

is inherently safer then....

Err, Yes. Driving faster than someone else on a safe stretch of road is infinitely safer and more responsible than attempting to fool someone into loosing control of their inadequate car on a bend.

This is not just my opinion; it is a fact.

However, I am pleased that you have seen my post. It is not my intention to offend nor to pick a futile argument about what is safe and what is not. Few people really choose to buy an S2000 or TVR without intending to make faster than average progress on public roads. However, I stand by original comment that intentionally fooling another driver into exceeding the handling limits of their car is irresponsible and in some instances could turn out to be criminally negligent.

I bear in mind that you believe that overtaking a slower vehicle on a clear stretch of road is equally as reckless. I however believe that your behaviour is in an entirely different league.

I'm not looking for a petty argument. Shall we just agree to disagree? Halo intact

I tend to look ahead and try and read the road situation, if the muppet driving behind wants to stare at my bumper thats his lookout..... but he should ensure he has a good set of brakes.

PS, lovely weather for TVR's today, saw a Green Griff on the backroad from Andover to Basingstoke (on the way to pick up my new car), A light blue Tuscan at Basingstoke rail Station (as I was waiting for the missus..in my new car) and a Blue Chim coming off the M3 at J11 this evening (did'nt look as if you knew where you were going, no offence).

..mostly chased by..

... a fat geezer in a blue VR6, right down the M6/M5. Complete lunatic.
Not playing.
Came up reeeeeeaaaaaal close behind and I was boxed in.
Scary.
When it was safe to emerge, I fcuking well emerged to get away from danger (he was weaving accross the lane).
Took some evasive action and was rewarded by a lingering cheesy grin, stuck in my rear view.
Dropped it down and approached a silly speed to lose him but he caught me up when I returned to a sensible/safe speed.
Luckily, penis in Vectra decides to releave me of him

What is it with Audi A4s tonight?? Took the Griff out for a short blast earlier this evening as the weather was so nice, and ended up being tailgated by three of the things at various times. I wasn't in the mood for licence-losing speeds so I let them all round when it was safe to do so, but what were they trying to prove?

Edited to add: the traffic lights on the A40 were fun, though

And upon opening the garage for the 1st time in a week I was excited, upon getting into the Griff and driving her I was not but alas I was just warming the engine back up.

So the long straight road called and off i did go, ohhhhhhh there was this strange feeling when i accelerated in 3rd, one i had not encountered all week in the Beemer, the feeling of being pushed back into my seat!!!!!!

And the devil sent an AudiTT to tempt me, and i was tempted but moved away from it quickly, without effort (in 5th!!)

Then an angel appeared , a Tuscan , and we did play all the way home...

And i also played with the fast pedal on the wayth home! power on power off power on power off power on ahhhhh and i recommendth you to take your TVR out have it show you the way...

The Rear of my Chim must be covered with a special BMW pheromone, it appears it is more attractive to the lesser or common 318i, as every time I look in the rear view mirror I see one trying to 'mount' my rear.
A session of below speed limit driving / letting everyone out normally pursuades them other wise.

I used to hate the knob-jockies that would tear up behind, you'd let them pass, then they sit in the outside lane matching your speed with the window down to listen to your engine.

Its flattering the first 10 times it happens then it just becomes plain unsafe.

My Griff used to piss me off because of all the unwanted attention when driving. Used to scare the cr@p out of the girlfriend too which kind of takes the shine off the nice evening drive out.

I miss my sportscar but it wasn't all roses. Playing tag with dicks in Nova/ Vectras/ Astravans (all Vauxhalls!) is fun until you have your second 360 spin/ tank slapper...

Really? I quite like it. Maybe I'm just an exhibitionist. I don't much enjoy being tailgated by reps who think their cars must be faster, but I think it's nice when people flash their lights and stuff (as long as they stay safe and don't do stupid things). My thinking is, they don't do this when I'm out in any other car, so they're just appreciating a nice car.

You do get the odd jealous moron who'll try to take your mirrors off or something, but IMHO the positive reactions far outweigh the negative.
