Morning all,

I plan to treat my home office to a screen upgrade and like the aesthetic of 1 large screen rather than multiple small ones.

There is limited info out there about real users of these screens, the panels are all made by LG but there are four versions out there in the wild:

- Dell U4021QW
Been out for over a year. Seems to have issues with the KVM and other random issues posted on line. Also runs at 60Hz. Has a 5 year warranty and even with one dead pixel they replace it.
- HP Z40C
Thunderbolt 3. Nothing out there on it as it is too new.
- Lenovo P40W-20
Newer, fewer issues reported (maybe because newer). Can be run up to 75Hz and has Thunderbolt 4.
- LG 40WP95C-W
Cannot find availability. Has TB4 and 72Hz.

The Lenovo is available at the lowest price right now (around £1,350), I cannot find the HP nor Lenovo available in the UK yet and the Dell is around £1,650.

Anyone got any of these and could comment on stability?

We have many Dells at work and they are unreliable, have to be power cycled regularly to make peripherals work etc. My Dell at home is similar, doesn't wake from sleep well, has to be unplugged once or twice a week.

Underneath they are all the same LG panel, so I would treat refresh rates with a pinch of salt, TB4 would be nice for the future but the Dell 5 year warranty and pixel guarantee is way better than the others.

PS it is for work not for gaming.

Hmmm.

I've got the U4021QW at home, although I picked it up last year and certainly didn't pay anything close to it's current price.

No issues with mine, although I don't use the KVM features. I do have a Logitech Brio (4K) camera plugged into the monitor and I've never had any issues with it being picked up when flicking between work and personal devices over the USB-C connection.

The majority of companies I've worked at we opt for Dell throughout, don't tend to have many issues. Mostly it's docking stations that are the flakey part.

I have a Dell U4320Q at home, with a 24” monitor in portrait orientation next to it that displays Outlook and email stuff.

Whilst the 43” has acres of space I find it easier to organise things on the two 30” side by side monitors I have at work. 30” seems about right for me in terms of field of vision, so I tend to work on one and use the other for referring to things. 43” is a bit “IMAX” in comparison - I end up moving my head around too much unless I use windows that make stuff roughly the same size it would be on a 30” screen.

I’ve had Dell, HP and BenQ high-end screens since LED IPS screens were a thing.

I’d say they’ve all been just as good. In fact my first Dell screen is still going strong ~ 17 years later.
My HP got a bit whiney on the power supply.
BenQ, niggles, but solid enough.

I too would like a big widescreen curved display to replace 2x 32inch 16:10(9?) screens… but want IPS and 100% srgb and decent adobergb coverage too.

I’m waiting for an 8K 48” 32:10 type display with OLED to arrive.

Everything else for now is still smaller than what i want width wise, meaning I’d want another screen, which then ends up being even more uncomfortably off to the side.

They are flat and at that size with my old eyes that’s a lot of head movement!

I have two 4K 27s and fancy a change.

The normal curved large ones have lousy vertical resolution. Great for gaming rubbish for work.

5k2k is the best out there at the moment.

But I may take a laptop down to John Lewis to see what Outlook looks like on an OLED!
