Face Time woes

Anyone having trouble using FT recently?
Seems there was an upgrade recently, and when our son calls me or visa versa the the screen freezes and the image blurs over within about 30 seconds, audio is OK. My iPad has Os15.4.1
It’s the same when I open up the call on my iPhone.
He tried it on an old MacBook and it was fine.
The opening screen now has two oblong windows at the top, left one says “Creat Link”, the right one says “New Face Time”, this only appeared the other day.
Seems on the face of it it’s an upgrade with serious glitches in it.
