How much bandwidth ?
Discussion
I've just started a forum on my website. At the moment, it's hosted on 1and1 business which gives me 20Gb a month bandwidth allowance. It's just getting started, and will build slowly til about December, when it should start going mad. I've really no idea of the figures yet, but I'm lead to believe that something like 5000 visitors a day might happen. Has anyone got a clue as to how much bandwidth this will use? also, I've only got 100Mb mysql database, is this likely to want beefing up?
I'd hate for it to start crashing, just as it takes off.
Thanks in advance
Phil

5000 visitors is quite alot, but it depends on how active they are (how many threads they post in, how many threads they read, how big the threads are they read etc)
I host a few large forums, and the numbers involved dwarf those by a factor of 10 on both counts, with average 'online' numbers being < 1000 at any one time for most.
So long as your package is scaleable tho, it shouldnt cause much issue.

Cheers for that jamie.
I suppose the simple answer is, I'll have to suck it and see. It's possible, I'm lead to believe, that it will be something like 5000 pageviews, and 1000 posts.
1and1 scale up to 80Gb/month, then it starts looking expensive at £5 a gig. I might just have to give you a call
.
thanks
