Yes, i noticed that also a few months ago. I messaged one of the admins on the fb page to enquire and he says the original founder of the forum cannot be located for access to reinstate the forum......or something on those lines.

Such a shame with all the wealth of information accumulated there over the years!

Thanks for the info.

Was a very useful forum.

This makes me quite angry actually. I posted on that forum about a year ago to ask if anyone had considered a backup because there was so much information on there and it was looking quite deserted. I knew that exactly this would happen and all the info would be lost.

I was told "there are no plans to shut the forum down, don't worry". rolleyes

Facebook groups have killed so many forums and all the info on there goes in the bin.

Just checked the response i got from the admin and he basically said the site is broken and they can't contact the hoster. Someone suggested they tried Tieredaccess.com to try and locate the hoster but don't know if this was followed up.

Might be worth a try if someone knows how this works.

That's a real shame, I've been on the forum for years. To say it was a wealth of information would be an understatement. It's saved me many a time in terms of part numbers or niche little how-to guides.

Call me old fashioned, but I just can't get on with Facebook groups. Well, Facebook in general to be honest!

You're not alone.

Forums are dying BECAUSE of Faceache, because that's so much easier for the social side of it - chat, media-sharing, organising meets, which is what most owners want most of the time.

...but what owners NEED, as mentioned above, is a searchable historic resource - parts, problems and fixes, work-arounds, useful mods, suppliers, etc. etc. And for all that, Facebook is utterly fking useless, and doesn't care about that.

I am still holding out hope of getting another DC2 once my finances recover from the last 2 years, but without itr-dc2.com I'm (only slightly) worried what I could be walking into in terms of long-term ownership and maintenance. It's not something French, thank god...but there is still stuff that a non-expert needs a guiding hand on...

Fully agree with that….

Fb does not replicate forums at all.

Sad times. It only seems like yesterday that HondaRevolutions and ITR-DC2 were the de facto UK Honda forums!!

I also just went looking for itr-dc2 which brought me here. A shame as I was active on there in 2001 until 2006.

Fduk went the same way with the forum removed and 10 years of rx7 expertise down the pan.

I've recently got myself another 90s honda and its a struggle to even join any of the forums. Honda-tech and crx.co.uk won't even let me register.

Its such a shame as I've the last 20years these sites were invaluable through my jdm exploration.

It seems now its just option codes, xenon light output and warranty information.

Very sad times

Agree, my frustration too. The volume of well researched and written forum posts that have been lost only to be replaced with people on FB asking the same dumb questions over and over again on a daily basis is tragic.

yes

But FB is free, whereas fora took time and effort to maintain - time and effort that your average user didn't appreciate (until it's now gone) and didn't want to pay for.

While this is true the owners of successful forums like itr-dc2 with large member counts sell for good money these days.

Many have gone to Chinese parent companies but what happens from there is anyone guess but I expect "free" won't be a part of the future

And why should it be? Maintaining a server and administering a forum costs time and money - not sure how many of us (self included) realised quite how much in our younger days.

...and now we're realising a second cost - the potential loss of all that valuable information to future selves / future owners.

It shouldn't!! It's a club with fees like any other.

But this is why everything has gravitated to Facebook, its free!!

CR-Z Forum is still highly active, what other Honda forums still exist?, CRX-UK is still there but almost completely dead, back in the day
it was one of the biggest, everyone was on there whether you had an ITR, a DA, EF, Del Sol or EG was irrelevant, excellent forum
but times have moved on sadly, FB isn't a patch on what we used to have.

That's so sad. Memories of my dc2 all those years ago and spending endless time on the forum gathering knowledge.
