Good afternoon Gentlemen.

A break in the snooker world championships - so I have a little time.

I must admit my ‘Number Plate’ thread would draw some quizzical glances, but no. Some of you are also on the same page.

Here we go again. Another part of me that loves classic cars and that whole thing about ownership and choice. Let’s not forget, if you have a modern car - you don’t have that choice.

Since air bags became de rigueur, and multi- function steering wheels.

I’m sure a lot of you all would agree, when you are sat at the helm of your car, pointing it into corners, double-de-clutching, blipping the throttle . The steering wheel is really what makes it for me. It has to feel right, look right, and be perfect.

Number plates soon become an afterthought.

Here are some of mine

Current one on the Elise.

And then the Scirocco (original).

This sometimes goes on the Scirocco, it’s a bit of a take on a classic Italian wheel, similar to the Ferrari Dino wheel. Small in diameter and a bugger on non-assisted steering 80’s cars.

This one started me off mid nineties, it’s been on all my VW’s

A really nice steering wheel.

I’d love to see what Chad has for his Ghibli.

But also, I’m sure you all have something to post up .

No work tomorrow, enjoy your weekend fellas.

My current cars are all new enough to have airbags so I have had to put my favourite steering wheel on the wall for now.

Love my genuine Moon Eyes wheel in red Metalflake that I have in my '64 Chevyvan - just need to make up a centre...

The lovely wood rim wheel I had in my '64 Dodge pick up...

One of the first period mods i did on my 205 GTI quite a few years ago after buying it.

Momo 350mm steering wheel with the Corse centre - mainly fitted as i wanted to preserve the mint condition original wheel, but fitting the Momo stetup works nicely in the GTI given the wheel i fitted was also made in 1991 (same year as the car).

I just love the look of Nardi wheels. They come in various styles but for me their Classic style is the best. Either black leather or wood rim (depending on car style / age etc) but would prefer black spokes rather than polished as the latter can suffer from dazzling reflections in bright sunlight. Exception would be an early 60s Ferrari or similar but I’ve never had to worry about having that problem wink

Also the Momo Prototipo is worth a mention. Great looking wheel but doesn’t suit everything. Seems popular in the classic Porsche world.

EDIT Just noticed Scrump’s post above, pic of a Momo Prototipo complete with Porsche badge. Looks fantastic and proves my point!

I'm sans classic or anything interesting at the moment, but my Caterham had the quick release Momo like this - lovely to hold and perfectly suited to its incredible steering.

When the Sultan of Brunei eventually sells me one of his 3 McLaren F1 LMs then I think I'll have my ultimate steering wheel....

Exactly what I fitted to my mk1 gti in 93. The car Recently has undergone serious work but nostalgia meant the wheel was staying

I often changed the wheels on my cars back in the day ,70s 80s &90s , I think the last leather Mountney wheel cost me £25 with a boss kit .
I am amazed at what people are asking for them these days , second hand back in the day they were £10 max .
I remember having half a dozen wheels of various makes , diameter and dishes hanging in the garage along with several boss kits .I did avoid the tiny 10" wheels that were popular for some reason .

I'm a steering wheel addict. Every pre air bag car I owned in the past had an aftermarket quality steering wheel fitted. Could list them all but that would take too long. I have 30 plus wheels to choose from these days and usually swap them over on my Sunbeam each time I take it out.
Surprised how different the car feels with say a flat or dished wheel, oval or round rim or even sculptured / normal grip. Here's a couple

The Nardi in my Mk2 Cooper S is coming out to go into my Maser Biturbo as soon as I've bought a suitable replacement, which will probably be a 13'' or 14'' Moto-Lita one with a black leather rim and dished, polished spokes...

The one in the Maser is OEM but it's not the prettiest...
