We'll see what tomorrow brings, but the speculation of Audi buying the road car business as part of an F1 engine deal is interesting. Honestly, Geely wouldn't be a bad partner either if they handle Aston as they have Volvo.

If I remember correctly this was for an in-house ICE system.I wonder of Lawrence Stroll is starting to understand that there's more to making cars than pushing a brand? Still, at least he's got a successful F1 team out of it....oh, wait.
Volvo is a good example of a car company being taken over by a cash rich car company. Hopefully Lotus will also benefit. BMW haven’t done badly with Mini or Rolls Royce. The VAG prestige sector seems buoyant so Aston would probably be in safe hands there as well.
It does seem as nobody builds a better high end British car than the Germans.
What could they have done with Bristol, Noble, TVR, etc, etc ? They may have lost a bit of their quirkiness but they may have made fabulous SUVs to make money and a few sports cars to cater for the petrol heads.

Well, how about that. I just hope it's not too late, that the damage he did isn't undoable. I said he was the wrong man for the job from the moment he was appointed. He killed Aston's own new V6, and lied about it "not existing" after they showed it running on the bench. He thought you can make an Aston out of Mercedes bits. You can't compete with Ferrari if you buy someone else's off-the-shelf engine, especially when you have a century-long history of making your own. He was moving rapidly toward also sharing platforms with Mercedes. You can't compete with Ferrari if your car is a Benz with an Aston badge. Then he said that the infotainment system will be the key differentiator among brands going forward. Yes, the infotainment would be the most important thing that distinguishes an Aston from a Benz (or a Ferrari). Ex-Ferrari guys coming in seems like a good thing, but Stroll is still there and went along with Moers' ideas, so it may be too late. I hope it isn't.
Your not alone the infotainment system probably figures somewhat down the list for most buyers.
I recently got a Vanquish S and didn't ever consider a DB11. The tech inside my Vanquish is quite literally a bit crap and I've been in Astra hire cars with more tech but I love my Vanquish all the more for it.
The font size on the lcd screens is sooo small I can barely read it even with my reading glasses on.
Nope....infotainment doesn't really figure in my buying decisions though if you wanted to buy a brand new car probably on pcp or similar and are going to daily the car then maybe it is more important but I still don't think it would be THAT important

I think your kind missing the point with infotaimment. Whats important is that it isnt just borrowed ftom Merc and a gneration out of date at that. The old Aston infotainment was great, even brilliant in AMi III giuse before they sacked itnoff and took a big step backwards for the old merc stuff.
In a car like an Aston it needs to feel special and unique. Take mclaren, its literally nothing more than an andriod tablet bit at least it feels unique to mclaren and not like yiu are sat in anmass market car like a merc. Once upon a time mercs were rare and special things, not any more. Oh and if you think any of the Aston genuine own infotainment versions are rubbish you really ought to try mclaren’s. Really bad.
Definately it isnt the most important thing in a car bit it needs to add to the ambience and feel of the car, not detract from it.

The question is what direction will the new chap take it, and can he entice back any of the good staff who left. regular changes at the top often makes even more good people leave. I wonder if this may also signal that the path to MB ownership isnt as much of a given as it perhaps seemed?

Completely echo the infotainment sentiments above. If I want a polished bit of interactive tech on a small touch screen, I'll go and buy an iPad.
What I really want to buy is an automotive soul in a complete mechanical package.
All I need is what's in the VH platform cars; physical controls for HVAC, basic audio, traction, cruise control. Just leave all the other navigation, audio and gimmick stuff to CarPlay / Android Auto. You can even use the phone's screen or provide a small iPad to clip in place.
But wasn't this once suggested by Andy Palmer for the then-proposed mid-engined Vanquish? I thought it was THE perfect move.

Well, they want to move towards Ferrari, let's see:- lots of branded "lifestyle" accessories
- restricted sales of more expensive models to "approved" customers
- general increase in prices across the board
- Aston Martin specific mannetino on steering wheels
- ban on sales to Justin Bieber, Chris Harris, etc. as they do not follow the brand's "code of ethics"

There will be one aspect which complicates any non-Mercedes acquisition.
The technical agreement for engines etc. will have contract term.
There might be a clause in that contract, whereby no parts will be supplied following any change of ownership.
Imagine how long a production delay there would be, if engines, electrical etc. had to be changed for most of the range. I don't know, but might fresh type approval be required.
Might Tobias Moers appear back at Mercddes- Benz ?
