NIP for 71mph on Variable limit motorway M6 Birmingham

So, just checked the dashcam and the following is what happened.
56mph through a 60 matrix
next matrix 70 so accelerated to 70
next matrix blank so kept at 70
next matrix 60 went through at 70 then decelerated to 60 for the next one.

NIP received so next time I'll be braking hard before the gantry to avoid any more points. Apologies if someone rear ends me. I always thought that there was a bit of give on the first gantry camera reducing the limit.

Why brake hard? Maybe use some anticipation and planning and slow down gradually for the speed limit change

There is a bit of give, just not 11mph over the limit amount of give. These variable limits are crap, they like hiding 50’s in the middle of a run of 60’s down here and easy to miss it

They changed the second gantry at posted limit rule a while ago. In favour of hard braking on the motorway, ridiculously.

I do think it's a bit cheeky when they change the speed in the same section of motorway.

I've nearly been caught our once or twice when you pass lots of gantries displaying the same speed then the next one is 10 or 20 mph lower.

Yes, I've always found it really hard to look at the speed limit signs and obey them. The are so many other distractions. Or maybe you are the same standard of driver as the op?

Post the footage, let's see how far you was from the gantry to when it showed 60.

I see all the sanctimonious posters are replying. They don’t promote good driving and in fact encourage bad driving eg by people braking hard, phantom braking cos drivers not sure if a camera is on that gantry, etc etc. My sympathy is with the op.

How hard do you have to brake to lose 10mph between seeing a gantry and passing it?

If they were doing 70mph as they state in the OP they didn't even need to lose 10mph. They only needed to get their speed down by 3mph to avoid a ticket.

If you were 70mph on the speedo, why was your NIP for 71mph?

Were you driving off the GPS speed or something?

Doesn’t matter if there is a camera on that gantry or not, the speed limit is the limit. It’s not like they’re tricking anyone, there’s a massive lit up sign that you can see from a fair distance away.

Before anyone says it, I’m not claiming to never speed. Just don’t think you can claim that it’s unfair when there’s a massive sign telling you what to do.

Hard braking is what the OP is promoting if you hadn’t noticed.

What if the sign changes the limit as your passing under, is there an activation time on the camera or are you expected to have superhuman reaction times and possibly cause a crash?

Drove from Knutsford to Luton last week and yes it was a little counter intuitive to be looking at the gantries when I'm used to just crusing, but I never used my brakes the entire trip and the limits ranged from 40 to 60.

They are f*cking massive, to be fair.
