I have a 1995 4L Chimaera with the serpentine belt and am looking for a new alternator. My existing one has noisy bearings and as far as I can tell is a no-label aftermarket job.

What brands/model do people recommend these days? The previous favourite Denso DAN016 is hard to come by. Currently I’m leaning towards a Hella 120Amp version sold by a few Land Rover parts specialists.

Would appreciate your thoughts and I will refurb my original as a project to keep as a spare.

Thanks for the offer of the second hand one.

I went new in the end. My original turned out to have a broken lug which was completely missing. It was the lower rear one and a previous owner had simply used a shorter bolt to fix it to the main support. Serviceable I suppose.

For future reference, the WAI 13726N (120 Amp) is a suitable replacement as an AMR2938 alternator. I did think about a Hella unit but thought about trying the WAI.

I was originally thinking of refurbing the original to keep as a spare but no point now that it has a broken casing.

No more noise on the driver's side of the engine now so onto the passenger side and the power steering pump!
