Is that the norm for car dealers even when they are open?!

I put a holding deposit down on a car and was told I can only collect Monday to Friday
as there are more staff around. They are open all day Saturday and Sunday.

Having not purchased from a dealer for some time, I wondered if this were quite common?

After suggesting I worked during the week (who would have thought it?!) and that I would need to cancel and have the deposit returned, we waited for the predicted response of it suddenly being ok to collect on a Saturday and sure enough, the email arrived saying we now could.

The first response dedicated approx 2 lines to my issue about having a job / weekend collections and then 200 lines about extended warranties and all the lovely things they can do for me for more of my money, so I was already put off.

So, is it the norm and they are going out of their way to help by allowing collection on a Sat, or is that total BS?

I'm pretty sure all the cars I had in the past which came from dealers were collected on weekends.

I purchased my current car from AvailableCar and they told me collections on weekdays as they can be time consuming and they want as many staff as possible dealing with customers, test drives etc and in the week they have much more free time.

I’d have preferred a weekend collection but wasn’t a deal breaker for me to go in the weekday evening after work since it was summer

Basically it's case of weekends are better spent selling than handing over cars.

Plus if you pick it up when service are in and there is an issue it can possibly sorted there and then but if you pick up on a Sunday and there are no technicians around you will have to postpone handover.

Only ever had to do a Saturday collection once, as most times i could move work patterns to suit during the week, and that was when i bought my Caterham (back when they were in Caterham itself). Basically the sales team needed to do a detailed handover, paperwork, etc, and would have much preferred to do that Mon-Fri due to the time involved. As i couldn't they agreed to let me collect on a Saturday, however made it clear i needed to arrive before 8:30am so the handover, paperwork, etc, could be done before they opened the sales doors at 9am. Which meant for a fairly early start having to get the train down, but thankfully it all worked out.
