Hi all,

Had my F40 m135i for 9 months (from new), done around 17000 miles which have been mainly motorway.

Washing the car over the weekend and noticed loads of little dots on the outside of the windscreen. Closer inspection and i found out they are all tiny stone chips in the glass... there are at least 40-50 of them, and they are tiny indents, you can feel them with your nail.

Never had this with any other car and i've been doing similar distances / usage with the last 4 cars.

Not sure what course of action to take? is it worth speaking to the supplying dealer to try and get a replacement under warranty? can they be 'polished' out?

It could have been in a garage where some grinding/welding has been next to it un protected.

After that much time and mileage I think you'd be out of luck making a claim - insurance job?

I noticed this on mine.

21000 miles of motorway driving didn't help. That's the least of my problems ... I hope you don't get the creaking trim syndrome around the the "A" pillars. Probably not helped by the Sun roof on mine.

My 5 series is the same too, albeit nearly 80k miles. It causes glare in certain sunlit. Its annoying, but not sure if anything other than a new windscreen could solve it.

My M140i was pretty peppered too after 23k.

Pretty similar on my 335i too albeit that has done nearly 80k.

I used to commute down the M3 every day, gets all sorts of sand and grit on it. After 2 years the front screen would be covered in tiny chips. I had to change the glass headlights on a Mercedes after 3 years because they looked like they had been sand blasted and the light output was badly affected.
