quick mortgage question
Discussion
I’m looking at moving home and just have a query in relation to mortgage options;
1. If it is a joint application and there is a 5 year age gap between applicants, who’s age is used for the maximum term ?
2. I’m now 49. What age could I actually get a mortgage to ? I assumed 65/70 which even that is past when I want to retire, but can you get longer than that as will be selling it prior to that anyway so wouldn’t be a massive concern
Just interested to be honest as a longer period means obviously looking at more expensive properties and keeping monthly payments down to a level where affordability really

Max term is derived from the oldest applicants age.1. If it is a joint application and there is a 5 year age gap between applicants, who’s age is used for the maximum term ?

Most lenders will go to 70, some will do longer depending on your circumstances such as proposed retirement age and/or pension provisions.
