HT Lead Confusion
Discussion
Hi All
Just changed the plugs on my Chim and whilst doing so I thought I had mixed up leads 4 and 6 and so I got the Steve Heath bible out to check the correct placement. Now I might be going crazy but the diagram in Steve's book in no way correlates to how my car has been wired when I chase the HT leads from the distributor cap to the plugs. Not one lead is in the correct place according to the manual. The car runs and starts perfectly so should I just ignore this or should I pull all the HT leads and put back as per Steve instructions. Has anyone come across this before, what's you thoughts. Car has stock ignition system, thanks

The distributor has been inserted (meshed) 'wrongly', which will move the position of No1 lead (and all the others) around. It doesn't matter so long as the leads are all in the correct order, which yours obviously are if it is running nicely.
Make a note of your layout for future reference.
But if you ever need to change the leads or remove the distributor in future, it may be a good idea to ensure that it is then inserted 'correctly' or the new off-the-peg leads may not reach as neatly as intended.
