EA and FIFA to split last one 2023

So after what 1992 to 2023 the great link of EA to FIFA has come to an end.

Appears FIFA wanted to double its annual licence to $150m making it arguable financially unviable.

I have many of these hard copy games which I’ve enjoyed over the years. There was a competitor which the name escapes me but that in itself says it all.

So last chance saloon to get the final version

Didn't EA originally organise the deal assuming that they can use the real names of the players, but shortly afterwards realised they couldn't?

Alternative is Pro Evo Soccer, although I think that had big problems at launch, last time 'round. They also lacked full licencing.

I think they've still signed leagues, teams, players, it just won't be FIFA branded: so no world cup/Euro spins offs. Not the end of the world. I'm not massively into football games but I'll have a manager mode running in whichever version is on gamepass. Be interesting to see what they do it make it different.

Not that it matters, but Konami (PESS) have the Euro rights anyway

As I understand it they'll still have the licenses for the clubs and players, just not the FIFA tournaments.

EA Sports FC is a crap name!

I was always a Pro Evo fan up until about 5 years ago, and have casually played 'FIFA' since. It'll be interesting to see how this evolves.

Not only would they not need to pay the Fifa licensing fee but should not be able to milk other sponsors so in game adverts from maybe Nike or Samsung etc

I’m still annoyed they removed 2 vs 2 friendly games online but that’s a different story
