Grease the musical is returning to the West End stage...I wonder if there will be a film remake in the pipeline too.

Grease: Can 'gritty' musical attract new theatre audiences? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-6122...

Go woke, go broke. I predict this will last about as long as Cinderella.

Seemed a bit rapey the last time I watched the film.

Outstanding songs though, such poetry.

Ramma lamma lamma ka dingity ding da dong
Shoo bop shoo wadda wadda yippity boom da boom
Chang chang changity chang shoo bop
Dip da dip da dip do wop da dooby do
Boogy boogy boogy boogy shooby sho wap sho wap
Sha na na na na na na na yippity dip da do
Ramma lamma lamma ka dingity ding da dong
Shoo bop shoo wadda wadda yippity boom sha boom

The only bit of the crappy film I can remember is Olivia Newton John in that tight black leather jumpsuit. Makes we want to climb inside the telly and slap her on the arse as hard as possible.

For that reason I’m probably not quite the target demographic for a gritty musical theatre 21st century remake and will not be attending

Not bad for a delightful lady who was already nearly 30 in real life.

JT was 23... so she should have been long gone by then.

The film toned down most of the grittiness and bad language of the original stage version. Maybe this will be a return to what the original was meant to like.

Good ‘ol Wiki... The original stage version included some future big names;
Patrick Swayze, Richard Gere & a certain John Travolta.
(But Only Patrick Swayze played Danny)

Pretty good when you're nearly 30, playing the part of a 17 year old - and yet still totally believable.

The film was near the knuckle in a few places, for the day.

The first song is a reference to kicking her back doors in, then there's "chicks are gonna cream". etc

An all white cast would just look odd now, nothing to do with being woke.

and yeah, that catsuit.....

I don't think it needed to be changed. You don't watch Oliver and think it needs to be updated because Bill Sikes chins Nancy. Some things should be allowed to stay reflective of the era they portray.

It’s got to be pretty high up the list of most profitable films ever; budget $6m, gross $366m.

I mean, not quite Mad Max 1 but impressive nonetheless.
