Scotlands new speed cameras

Seen a couple of these scattered about now in the Glasgow area. No idea how they work but very sneeky as despite being yellow the one I passed near Hillington was surrounded by trees

My only comment is that the triangular sign should say ‘Frail People’ not ‘Elderly’

Are you are they are not red light activation cameras?, I know of one in Scotland that activates a red stop light if you exceed the 30 speed limit. Much better than a fine, and a bit embarrassing too! I assume the red stop light in my case has a camera attached.

Going from where I've seen the 2 (not near lights) I would assume they are fancy digital non flashing speed cameras. Local paper said 8 of these like the picture have been put in

The sign shouldn't say "Frail People" or "Elderly people", the only permitted plates for that warning sign are "Disabled people" and "Blind people".

The cameras are speed cameras. There are loads of stories online and in the press up here about them being installed.

They look like part of an average speed camera set up. Is there not something similar further up the road?

The ones you are thinking of are in Springholm on the A75. They are activated by sensors on the top of the traffic lights themselves.

Both the TSRGD 2016

and the Traffic Signs Manual



are clear about what the permitted plates are. You appear to have taken your screenshot from the road-signs.uk.com website which last time I checked wasn't a definitive source for road traffic legislation.

Up on the A537 (and A54) Cat and fiddle road they've just updated the old Specs cameras to those new ones and only have the small square camera sprayed yellow so the posts merge nicely into the background rather than doing their primary purpose of being visible to reduce speeding, probably due to some bullcarp about respecting the visual impact rather than raising money and reducing accidents
