Hi,

I've started in a new job at a FTC, then gone to that being offered a Perm role three months in that arose out of increase in team size.

The six months probational period has ended and my employer want to extend this out due to very weak circumstances.

The issue is rather complicated so let me explain;

1. My line manager has had no issues with performance/ability to do my job and was happy to accept me as past probational status
2. Department manager is the one that wants to extend my probational period

Department manager only gets involved in certain engagements and I indirectly report to them, they have been involved at the tail end of a project I escalated due to internal politics, they used to this give me a very generic bit of advice on working with stakeholders and that was it...nothing was documented or written down as needing improvement.

I feel they have used this to hide something regarding me being moved out of probational period.

My line manager has asked for stakeholder feedback from which I know most of them will have nothing but positive input.

The overall org is rather lets say "challenging " when it comes to people management....a recent head of the function was put in place and I get the feeling our head of department got nose out of joint there.

All of this really is just stress not needed as I enjoy my job and working with stakeholders and more importantly I need stability with a family.

Am I now just held to the throat here regardless of any factual evidence being presented?

after writing that, you want a permie role with this organisation?

Id be keeping the probation period and looking for another employer, then you can walk away.

Stress doesn't reduce when you go permie

Given that employers can get rid of you in the first two years because they don't like the colour of your socks I've never been exactly sure what the point of a probationary period is?

The statements made on "do I want a job here" is valid and has crossed my mind yes. One thing I'll say is that the company isn't that bad as a company to work for overall and package good.

It is a very cross functional role I do working with different indirect stakeholders and from feedback i'm doing ok from what has been said.

Reading into this I think it's mainly down to control and ego.

And as for the <two years timeframe that would mean id get three months to find something else.
