Hi,

I’ve got the chance to buy a 2016 520D SE auto saloon with around 160k miles

It’s got 14 services and has passed all three MOT’s first time. MOT due November. Last serviced in March. I haven’t actually seen the car yet but I should be able to in the next two weeks

What would you value this car at? I’m new to the BMW scene and have never owned one so unsure on prices

TIA

Look on eBay & Autotrader

Find similar vehicles if you can and see what they're currently listed for

On eBay; go to advanced, type in 'BMW 520D SE' and select 'sold listings' and see if you can find similar cars that have sold recently

That should give you a good ballpark figure

Check that the gearbox has had a proper flush ideally by a gearbox specialist.

ZF recommend a service every 60k miles or 6 year iirc. Had mine done at 80k miles and just over 10 years

I looked on AT a few days ago but couldn’t really find the same year, make, model, spec, mileage to get a feel for the price

I’ll have to base a price on slightly newer and older models and adjust accordingly

Thanks ref gearbox

£5000 - 6000 for that.

The gearbox will be fine, plenty of 8 speed ZF's with 200k plus and no problems. Change the oil and sump/filter if you want but I'm not sure I'd bother. Oil and gearbox technology has moved on somewhat since the days of the E39.

If it drives okay, it'll be fine. Definitely change the engine oil every 10k though, make sure the EGR recalls have been done and look under the back to check for diff oil leaks.

It'll be a nice car for 5 grand. cool
