Hi Guys,
Mrs.Chips recently retired. One of her retirement gifts was a tour of the Globe Theatre in London, followed by afternoon tea for two at The Swan.
Has anyone on here done this? If so, what can we expect?
We have arranged a two night stay in London at the beginning of July and are doing the tour on the first afternoon. The only issue is that, on the details for the tour it recommends, “smart, casual dress,” and at that point, we won’t have been able to access our hotel room, so will be in the gear that we travelled down in. If you have been, what did you wear? Will smart jeans cut it or not?
Thanks for all constructive responses.

I’ve been to the Swan many times in jeans - even had a hoodie on last time due to cold weather.
No one batted an eyelid.

Can’t help on the tour but the Swan was great - had the gentleman’s afternoon tea.

I did the tour a number of years ago and strongly suspect i was wearing jeans.

Can’t remember too much about the tour apart from enjoying it and would do it again.

We did the tour a few years ago and jeans were fine.

Hi Guys,
Well, we’ve just returned from a brilliant couple days in London. The Globe tour was great, very interesting and the guide was terrific.
When we went to the Swan, Mrs.Chips had a cream tea, which she loved. I had the gentleman’s tea and it was fantastic. Plenty for all powerfully built company directors.
Thanks for all the responses.

Glad you enjoyed it, The Globe is good fun especially when it isn't raining;)

Nobody dresses up for anything in London, except maybe the opera, and even then only at the ROH.

If you wear a hoodie, jeans, trainers and an attitude, no-one will throw you out of anywhere for fear you are an Insta-nfluencer and they get cancelled.

Try having afternoon tea at The Ritz. Gentlemen aren't even allowed to remove their jackets!

couple of years ago I went to the Gavroche. It was a roasting hot day and I didn't have a jacket - they insisted I borrow one from their cloakroom even though it was a about 4 sizes too big for me!

The trick is to look like you might be a fugitive Russian oligarch of some kind. A burly entourage helps.

Happy memories of Le Gavroche from back in the day when i was a wage slave with an expense account. I didn't know they still had the jacket policy, how sweet.

Outside London it is noticeable that dressing up to the nines for a meal or the theatre is still much more of a thing. Lunch at Le Manoir recently was like a day at the races. My wife and I felt quite chic by comparison - and no we were not in athleisure;)

if you can, get the Clipper there. You can hop off at Bankside right at the front door of the Globe. It's a far more enjoyable experience than the underground.
