Hi, new here and I hope my first post doesn’t offend lol.
Basically I’m in the process of fitting a 96 4.0 Chimaera engine into my 1973 Datsun 240z
My problem is I need some help with the elecs/loom connections
The donor TVR engine loom has two master plugs coming from it, one is a large brown with I believe 6/7 wires the other is a larger white with 20ish wires.
Basically I need help to identify which wires to connect to get a “permanent live feed” aswell as a “switched ignition live feed” from my Zed.
I’ve just bought the Chimaera/Griffith manual today, but it seems to list wires that my Chimaera loom doesn’t have?
I’ve identified what I believe are the two main positive wires in the brown loom plug, one is brown and green and the other is a white and purple, but does that sound right? Both these wires are very heavy, ie much heavier then the others in the brown plug!
Can anyone help before I blow something by mistake?
Ps, sorry but elecs really aren’t me.

A little pic ..

How much of the loom have you got? I assume you have the ECU, and loom out to the ingine bay for the injectors, coolant temp sender, fuel temp sender, lambda sensors, stepper motor, carbon cannister purge valve. Apart from that what do you have?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I have the complete engine/loom/ecu as it was removed from the car (unplugged)
Everything is still attached as per. I also have a short section of the matching loom from the donor TVR
So basically everything is still plugged into the engine as it should be. I can then plug the matching plugs into that but I need to trace what wires to power. I.e the permanent live and a switched live. I have the starter sorted, aswell as the oil/water senders.

Hi
Maybe this pic may help

The large brown plug…

The two wires into it on the left
Top is a green/brown… going into a red with a small blue band
Bottom is a purple/white….. again going into a red but with no band

Both these coloured wires to the left of the plug are much heavier then the other wires.
Are these the wires to power up?
If so which is which?
Cheers

I can't see the airflow meter in the picture, but I assume you're using the injection system from the TVR? If so, you'll need the ECU as well (this is located in the nearside footwell on the donor car) and the fuel pump. Obviously you'll also need the corresponding wiring.

To be honest I don't recognise either of those plugs, but then I haven't taken the ECU loom out of the car (yet).

My V8S originally had the same engine and engine management system as your donor Chimaera, so I would have thought the looms would be similar if not identical.

In that case, I'd expect to find a whole bunch of wires going from the ECU to the engine bay (I assume you have identified these), and a separate bunch of wires coming from the ECU to the main power relay and fuel pump relay and back to the fuse panel. Do you have these two relays (metal cased relays stuck in the middle of the loom) and/or any of the fuse panel? Do the connectors you're referring to split the loom between the ECU and the fuse panel?

Hi
To make things a little clearer, I have a complete engine/box inc “all” ancillaries (ecu, metering unit, looms, exhaust etc etc) as it was lifted from the donor car !!
Now 99% sorted the prob; those two large feeds both lead to relay pins 30/51 on both the inj and main relays. I’ve fed a permanent live to both and the engine is sparking and I now have fuel.
Cheers
