Old songs with lyrics that didn't age well
Discussion
Was listening to Colonel Abraham, "trapped "in the car this morning and i thought the words were a little dodgy...
What other songs have some really suss lyrics when using today's 'acceptable social morals' ?
Colonel Abraham's song said:
Should I listen what you say
Or listen what your folks say?
It's a tough decision to make
I don't really wanna lose you
But I don't want your folks to
Turn me over to the hands of the law
What did he mean? surely he didn't mean that she was underage? or that he had beaten her?Or listen what your folks say?

"Well you're only 15, but you look good" is from a Depeche Mode track that's in my car at the moment, which makes me think it is a bit marginal every time it comes on. There's lots of old rock-n-roll songs covering "that sort of thing", though, and I'm not sure that just saying someone "looks good" is all that bad. I bet they'd think twice about writing it now, though.
co-worker has just brought this to my attention...
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run girl
You're much too young girl
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe you're old enough
To give me love
And now it hurts to know the truth
Young Girl - Gary Puckett & the Union Gap

From Luka by Suzanne Vega
They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
Yes I think I'm okay
I walked into the door again
If you ask that's what I'll say
And it's not your business anyway
Domestic abuse?
They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
Yes I think I'm okay
I walked into the door again
If you ask that's what I'll say
And it's not your business anyway
Domestic abuse?

Perhaps you ought not look at the words to 'Little children' by Billy J. Kramer, especially the first verse.
