I've just bought a white 964 Porsche. Its not my first choice of colour but everything else about the car was spot on so I thought I'd paint it. However, now I've got it, it seems too original to paint and would be a shame. So I'm thinking of wrapping instead. Has anyone here wrapped a classic before? Does it look good, does it last, can you choose bespoke colours, how much, any recommendations for anyone in London/ Surrey? Sorry for all the Q's, any advice appreciated!

Certainly possible. There are some guys on the detailing/ bodywork subforum who might offer advice.

I think generally a wrap will last about five years, not sure on a less frequently used classic though....

I always thought a wrap totalled the paint underneath? I've never seen a wrap removed that didn't require the car painting afterwards.

OP, agree re' white on a 964...it's not the ideal colour, but if it excellent original condition have you thought of adding some subtle Carrera detailing to break up the plain white? I'm thinking light-mid grey [or your preferred colour...] Carrera to the sides rather than run the risk of fouling the original paint.

Something like this without the awful painted wheels

I had my 1990 928 wrapped, but knew I would be getting it re-sprayed at some point - here's the potential effect of taking the wrap off.

Sorry, I don't know why the photos are out by 90 degrees!

I think the all white looks better on the hard top, just not so much on the targa and convertible, its a bit too Miami for me. Yes the Carrera script suits it but again not sure about that on a targa.

Someone did say that doing a CeramicPro coating on it before wrapping is a good idea.

Logic VPC based at Henry's Car Barn do peelable paint. I'd go for that over a wrap but it's not cheap!

Yes, I had heard about the peelable paint but I think its similar cost to a respray. I've been thinking on this more and talked myself into a respray. The original paintwork isn't great and will need re-doing anyway and if thats going to happen then I wouldn't want to pay for it in a colour I didn't want. Might as well take the plunge!

Presume you're OK with the potential resale issue for colour change.......many people are put off by a colour change from what the data plate says, and that's on the assumption you are going full proper strip to bare shell for the colour change?
