We've got a sideline work from home business.

Its live online with shopify and we know that when we get an order we can ship it, its max 30 mins work and earns us about £14.

10 orders a day would be brilliant.

100 orders a day a bit of an ok disaster to deal with!

We're doing precisely no digital marketing, I dont know where to start.

How do you find the right person, whats the payment structure?

Hey, it’s a bit of a minefield, but there are a lot of good ones out there.

What industry / products are you selling? It’d be worth getting someone already in the industry to help promote it.

Alternatively google / Facebook advert platforms are very intuitive these days with a bit of patience and few articles online you could set up some paid advertising relatively easily.

At the level you're at, you don't need to commission anyone for this - just invest a bit of time learning how to do it.

Social Media is where you need to focus your effort as you have the greatest control on the number of people who see your ads. Facebook and Instagram run ads from the same single platform so start by setting up a business Facebook page.

Facebook do free one-to-one tutorials on the phone. They are very good - normally 45 minutes sessions x four sessions. You can book this on the dashboard when you've set the page up.

Key is the target audience - defining the type of people who will see your ads - and creative. The ads have to stand out.

And don't expect great things from day one. It takes a few goes to hone the audience and get the content right so be prepared for a few dud runs before you see the results.

I can't say I have ever ordered anything via Social Media, that said I work with PPC.

I simply don't think bothering people whilst they are finger scrolling and simultaneously pushing out a Richard the 3rd is ever going to work as well as high intent searches in Google. Social Meh is great for local awareness, but there is little or no intent outside of that, so you are literally burning money.

It depends entirely on what you're selling and who's buying. And then how you use it.

In the right context, it can be one of the most effective and cheapest forms of advertising. But in the wrong one, it can be useless.

As a general rule of thumb, you use Social Media to push traffic to a website from where you sell something or find out more information that then takes you to the point of purchase.

In an ideal, unlimited budget world you'd use a variety of channels including traditional print based ones. But when budget is limited or the need to focus on a particular market to a set size prevails, then you need to be a bit more strategic in your choice and Social Media is a good place to start.

Advertising is often faced with those that begin their critique of it with 'I'... "I never watch ads on the telly". "I never take notice of an ad on the back of a bus", "I never use social media"..... That all may well be true but so is the fact that a great many people 'do' do those things and I've found those business that embrace this this tend to flourish more than those that don't.

I use the lead generation service on Facebook. It took a while to fine tune it but it works just fine now. Once a month, I activate my advert by extending the end date by a few days and increase the budget by however much I wish.

I’m always guaranteed some new work. The beauty of this is that my business is growing steadily by spending some money and pushing a few buttons.

By using the same adverts, I’ve built up a lot of positive comments in the advert which helps tremendously!

That's remarkable; you'd expect a global corporation to fob you off with a page of made-up FAQs none of which is relevant.

I know. I thought it would be a 45 min sales pitch for some premium function but at the end, I actually got £50 worth of ad credits. The most useful aspect of the tutorials was learning how to interpret and use the analytics and insights. There's an enormous amount and not all are relevant but honing in on those that are transform the impact a campaign has.
