The mirrors have an internal metal cradle held in by a bolt tightened by allen key.
This is covered by a black plastic shroud which lifts and turns out of the way.

They are fastened to the car by a grub screw which tightens on the round base that sits proud on the car.
Tighten it up, and that should be the mirror secure.

Hope that helps - mine has the citroen cx mirrors (S3C)

Well that sounds like what Wooleys have sent me but they have cables and adjusters .

When I offer it up to the car on the offside I can't see how it will fit.

hmm, mine were the electic and heated varieties. The only cables on mine were the wiring for the elements to the heat/twiddly direction button. Incidentally they were snipped so I don't have heated mirrors anymore, which is no great hardship.

If you take some pics I can let you know if they are the same as mine to take you through it.

The bit on the car is literally a round collar with a wire coming from within that the mirror sits on, the grub screw is screwed in from the mirror so it secures it to the car via the metal collar.

Don't think I have any pics of when I did mine.

Here's the best I have. It shows half of the cradle from the inside of the mirror that had snapped off. This you should have for your new mirror. It fits inside with a small bolt and rubber washer. This in turn fits onto the car by way of the grubscrew.

So, in effect what you are seeing there is the bit that should be inside the mirror covered by the black plastic bit.

hope it helps a bit.
