Is there any point in bidding on a car auction listing (where the seller is not obliged to sell and the buyer not obliged to buy) and ......
1. He's already agreed to sell to me for more than the current listing, but then went back on that agreement to let the previous auction run.
2. He ended that auction as the price stayed lower than our agreed price.
3. He's got it back for sale in an auction, the current price is lower than we agreed previously, but he can't end the listing as there's less than 24 hours left so it's going to 'sell'.
4. He's asking for a 10% deposit from the winning bidder and collection within 7 days.
5. He's not replying to my email asking if he intends to refund the deposit if the sale doesn't complete.
6. I've also asked if there are any oil leaks and how much tread is on the tyres - no response.
I'm pretty sure that he won't sell if he doesn't get what he wants for the car, but I'm still tempted to win the car for less than our original amount and go and see it.
But I doubt that things will get that far with this car.

If you win the car, you are obliged to buy it. You are not bidding to "see" the car, you should go and see it before you bid.
Having said all that, given what you have told us, I would simply find another one, unless it's something that doesn't come up for sale very often.

This is absolutely true, but going by the messers I've had in the past, I would say approximately 10% of eBay users actually adhere to this.rfisher said:
