The Yorkshire Auction House
Discussion
I have recently began to watch this on C4 & the previous series on HGTV, having only two auctions per episode, it’s not too taxing.
I find it quite heartwarming, the owner of Rydale Auctions is Angus, who is honest with the clients & his small team just seem so casual & down to earth.
They do house clearances, usually after the loss of a loved one & then follow the items through to the auction.
It’s doesn’t matter if an item sells for twenty pounds or two thousand, it all adds up at the end.
Sometimes the sellers don’t receive a huge sum, but there’s usually a few surprises in store & they just appreciate the final amount that is raised.
No big build ups, falling about or badly scripted overacting.
( Its a combination of Bangers & Cash / Flog It.)

I presume the production company pay the 'clients'.
Otherwise why would a couple from Norfolk, for example, swerve past the 50 auctioneers between themselves and North Yorkshire to sell at 20% plus £5/lot fees and also attend the auction?
It's fairly harmless tv but like a lot of reality shows it doesn't add up and certainly isn't a representation of how it is in the real world.

Of course, as Angus tells them after each auction, “You are taking home with you”...
Obviously, he has to take out his commission & I don’t know how much he charges for the ‘men & van(s)’ clearances.
( Especially if they have driven a long distance).
At least it cuts out the bartering side of things.
No doubt, a lot of these type of programmes receive a lot of applications, which are whittled down to the ones that would make watchable TV...& a good / interesting backstory usually helps too.
Don’t tell anybody...but Angus’s real name is Henry.
( As revealed on an episode of Antique Roadtrip)

I suspect the production company pays all the packing and removal costs, otherwise (at the prices quoted on the website) there'd not be anything left over for most of the sales.
It's enjoyable enough, and not as dismal as shows like 'Cash in the Attic' where family heirlooms are sold for buttons.
It might also be known as 'Yorkie Auc-ky' in my household.

Angus does seem to get a few quid for the more abstract & art stuff as well... even when he admits that it could be a difficult seller
Chap selling two hundred model buses... surely, putting them back in the boxes in advance wouldn’t have been that difficult.
