Mobile speed cam range on bridge

I was overtaking a car doing that was doing 60 on a 70 Dual Carriageway, i needed to get past quickly and accelerated to 80 then once past headed back to 70, a speed i usually drive at when law allows...........I am not a serial speeder for those about to lynch me. I noticed a speed cam van on a bridge about half a mile away. straight road and was already heading back to an easy 70, probably over the limit for no more than 5 seconds or so. Whats the typical range these things catch you at? Anyone know??
Please dont feel the need to roast me for being over the limit for 5 seconds I am genuinely curious.

10% plus 2-3mph depending on force

If the speedo was showing 80mph max you're likely ok - every car I've owned is doing a GPS 76-78 at an indicated 80mph so within tolerance (its for this reason I set my CC at 80/81 when cruising on motorways - I know that I'll be fine)

Thanks for the Info, its Northants police so who knows how strict they are !!! I was also thinking how far away a van can catch you at, i.e distance Some say 1km but then read other stories that this is the new long ranger trialed in gloucester and not common.

Google says anything upto 2 miles for the handheld laser detectors.

Probably. I saw one on a bridge on the M6 toll, a few years back. I was doing an indicated 80mph (probably 78 actual). I never got a NIP. I can’t answer for the VW transporter that overtook me though!

It.'s not possible to hold a laser gun steady enough to measure speed at 2 miles

I'd say 250-750 metres is the typical range in motorway cases. I very rarely see anything >750m.

The ones we had were supposedly good for 2.4km. Never tried them at that distance, maybe 3/4 of a mile, and they worked just fine.
And the laser beam scans side to side, it's not a single point.

This was one sticking out the side of a white van which i imagine is mot handheld but even more solid and stable.

The one time I had a chat with a camera van guy many years ago. He was on a bridge over the M4 in South Wales with his camera trained on a bend in the motorway. They love that position for their camera van -I would suggest that up to 80 showing you will be ok.

I got done from a bridge up in North Yorkshire, exactly the same situation, duel carriageway and I was overtaking, by the time I saw the camera can I had slowed a bit but as others have said he saw me way before I clocked him.

86 in a 60 and got 3 points.

If your speedo said 80 then you are probably just ok.
If it was 82 you are probably in the 5h17 bro.
Distance of camera won't be a get out of jail card, hope 80 was your top speed reading and that wasn't when you were slowing down having spotted the camera.
