Agreed to part exchange my car - then lost service history

Hi all,

I've ordered a new Dacia Duster and agreed to put my car in (2006 Merc R class) as part exchange. Its been valued at 2k and we've done the deal based on my car with a full service history. I've had the car for 2 years and bought it from a Mercedes specialist, I still have the original advert outlining the service history summary within it (including pictures of the car not the history). I do have some service paperwork, but not all of it.

The car did come with a service book which i remember having stamped as i've serviced it, but I've misplaced it somewhere and cannot for the life of me find it. What would you do in this instance?

My first thought is to continue looking then if i cant find it, call the dealer to explain. At the point of sale, they confirmed that the car will be going straight to auction as its too old for them to retail (16 years). How should I expect them to respond?

I'm a little nervous as I don't want to lose the deal i have on the Duster.

Take it that you mean 2006 as they seem to be quite old ?

Cheapest ones on autotrader are £2500 with faulty air suspension and £3000 with 160k miles

Sell it privately you’ll get more than £2k

No idea about the service history but I can't wrap my head around how a 5-year-old Merc R-class (or any class come to think of it!) can be worth only 2k. Is it a wreck or does it have sky high mileage?

edit: That teaches me for not reading the entire post. 16 years old, not 5-6 years old...

I don't really want all the sales hassle after a bad experience with tyre kickers selling another car.

Maybe phone the specialist you bought it from and garages you know it has been serviced at for a copy of any services

Thanks - I have a copy of their service and a highlight of all previous services listed on their advert. I have some paperwork to back up some of them. Unfortunately, I've lost the stamped book.

I can prove the services, I just don't have the Mercedes service book to do so.

Did it definitely have one ? My Mercedes (2013) does not.

Yes - I remember getting it stamped in October last year.

Just keep quiet, the dealer will probably just stick it through an auction and won't care/ask.

That's your answer right there. I'd bet they don't even look at the car when you trade it in

Dacia dealers who get a Merc SUV traded in for a Duster get a special bonus so - trust me - the chap in this case wont give a damn about the old paper work
