Best bet, always, is to back up your files like the IE cookies and favourites, and all the My Documents stff, then rebuild the pc from the restore CD, or Windows CD.
Guaranteed clean

Use Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com
then Microsoft Antispyware from www.microsoft.com
Then a good up do tdate virus scanner, like AVG Free from www.grisoft.com.

Install them, update them all (easy), then reboot in safe mode (tap f8 during bootup and select 'safe mode' from the menu) and run them all one after the other. Reboot and repeat untill none come up with anything.

You're probably 95% clean at that point Whatevers left, google the process names and take it from there...

Be a bit careful of downloading anything you find from www.download.com - best to go with what people in the industry recommend. Some spyware "removers" in fact put their own spyware onto your machine....so it doesn't really help matters

Would recommend that in future you don't use Internet Explorer as your browser and you go for either Opera or Firefox as your web browser as you will find you pick up a lot less junk.

I've purchased a program called "Content Cleaner" and it's brilliant at cleaning all the unwanted junk and files off my computer, very fast as well.
