I wish to have a grumble.

Worcester(shire) sauce was once a fine condiment. Deep, spicy, an excellent condiment to steak and stews.

But in a time where fashion has people looking for spicier and spicier food, Worcester(shire) sauce has turned to water.

Why is this, and what can I do to make my bottle of light brown water taste of Worcester(shire) sauce again?

The only thing I can think of is to empty it into a pan and reduce it until it tastes of something again. Bah.

Oxford sauce is quite nice. It's thick, too.

Have you considered making your own? Not as difficult as you'd imagine. I've messed about in the kitchen trying to recreate things, its somewhere between science and cooking. My Daughter actually thinks my homemade cola is the best

Like a lot of pickles and sauces I actually prefer the Tesco own brand Worcester sauce.

Try Hendersons Relish (hendos), its a northern version of worcester sauce and i prefer it.

Thanks folks - have the Oxford, Henderson and Tesco versions got a bit more clout flavour-wise?

I love Hendersons but I think even this has lost some flavour over the years. I see it as more of a table sauce to splash on your food when eating, tend to find the flavour is lost a little if used when cooking.

We also prefer the Tesco own brand Worcester sauce — it seems to have more of a kick to it than the L&P Worcestershire sauce.

I was pleasantly surprised by Oxford. It has a tang and clings. I shared the ingredients list so you could gauge for yourself.

I'd say it's more of a runny brown sauce, than a thicker worcestershire sauce.

Hendos Has the advantage of Worcester Sauce that it is also suitable for vegetarians.

Maggi Liquid Seasoning is my favourite sauce, it comes in 'regular' and 'hot'.
