We were watching the athletics on the telly with grandparents earlier when the Ethiopian girl won the 10,000 metres. My grandfather turns to me and says, I thought they were all starving in Ethiopia, to which my grandmum interrupts, yes but I bet she`s always first at the aid stations.

You can't beat grandparents can you. Sadly mine have moved on to a higher existence, no doubt giving everyone else a hard time. I hope I am a 'character' when and if I get there.

"Back when I was a kid...""Oh no she's off on one again"

"You get all kinds of things, you're so lucky, kids these days...."

Can't wait for the reaction when I tell my grandma I got a motorbike for my b'day today

Whilst out to lunch with my old grandpops a rather attractive waitress comes over to take our order. As she leaves he says

“Hasn’t that girl got lovely ts”

To which she turn round and smiled and as she turns to leave

“And a nice ae”

The food was ok

On another occasion whilst in the pub with him he was listening to some low life new age type bragging about how much he had blagged of the state to fuel his loafing

“Son, your not worth tuppence hapeny’s worth of shit and if you don’t fk off out of this pub in the next thirty seconds you’ll be telling that to the bloody fairies”

Fortunately for the old boy 35 years in the army stood him in good stead to deal with the dreadlocked one had the need arisen. The dross left promptly

On Jim Callaghan

“He said you can call me Jim, I say I can call you a total ae hole”

Not my gran, but one of my elderly relatives was telling me about calling Direct Line to get a home insurance quote and she said that she asked the young man on the other end of the phone to "make her happy".

Obviously she meant "quote me happy" but I thought it was hilarious.

Uncle:
"We'll hae no more blaether oot o' you the noo. The poor lad's going to hae t' visit one o' they heed doctors when he goes hame jus tae get that vision oot o' his heed."

Reminds me of the missus' mother giving me driving directions...

Daft old crone: Turn left at that bollock
Me: Eh?
DOC: Left. There. At the bollock.
Me: What are you banging on about?
DOC: Left. THERE. At the bollock. Oh, you've missed it. Youth of today, what do you see in him, etc etc...

Bollock, bollard, it's all the same to some

What a great expression. I've never really thought of it before, but that's exactly how I watch embarrassing stuff too.
