Neighbour with (serious) mental health problems
Discussion
Our neighbour (lived here for 5 years) has serious mental health issues that seem to happen randomly. By randomly, I mean he is fine for the most part but when he does have an episode he really goes into one. (screaming, swearing, hitting things for example)
He is probably mid 30s and lives alone with his mum who has MS so she is very vulnerable, has carers and seems to have absolutely no control over him whatsoever.
We've never had any direct issues with him until tonight but tonight we had a food shop delivered, the driver accidentally went to their house instead of ours and something triggered him and he wouldn't accept the delivery wasn't 100% his and the result is that he took a crate of our food.
I went round after the driver told me, his mum answered the ring doorbell and I told her what happened but she is unable to do anything other than shout for him (that I can hear he ignored).
I can go into much more detail to give an insight to what we've seen but the majority is stuff like him in his house losing his rag and screaming and shouting for 10 minutes until he calms down or him being out the front and kicking his recycling bin over but never anything more than that (that we've seen first hand)
The police have been involved a few times over the years so I know they are aware of him.
To summarise, what can I actually do? I don't care about the food but it's not on and it can't go on now that he has done something that actually affects us but at the same time, it's not like I'm going to go round and threaten him as I don't actually know how far he'd actually go if he is having an episode.
In my mind, he should be somewhere a bit more secure/capable but short of me calling the police for stealing a crate of food, is there anything that can be done as over the years, he does seem to be getting worse.

The incorrect delivery of food is not your fault. Report the error to the supermarket and get a refund. He is probably mid 30s and lives alone with his mum who has MS so she is very vulnerable, has carers and seems to have absolutely no control over him whatsoever.

if you are committed to getting involved then contact your local social services about your concerns
about a vulnerable mother with health issues, and her unstable, psychotic son.
heard such stories before, adult son kills parent, " if only we had known the son was a risk " says Social Services spokesbinaryperson.

Yes, I'll speak to them tomorrow to get it refunded but I'm more interested in what (if anything) can be done to get him gone.
Where do you expect him to go? There aren't vast asylums any more to lock people up for ever, shouting for ten minutes and kicking a bin isn't going to get someone put in a secure unit. Sad reality, probably not much you can do short of moving
Nothing is gonna change until mum dies sadly, trying to get change is only going to get you into bother
My advice would be, be as pleasant as you can, never rise to any situation p, you have more to lose.
Moving is your only real option
We have lived next door to scum bag drug dealing dole lots (social housing)
They have nothing to lose and we did, ie health, sanity, sleep. Trying to get them kicked out would probably never happen even if it took years

So the loss of the food isn’t an issue for you, but you want him taken out of your community because he occasionally has episodes that disturb your peace and quiet. Maybe offering some support might be more helpful.
Whilst it may not sound that bad to you, at 11:30pm last night, there were 2 police vehicles outside the house and he got taken away in cuffs at 2am in a van so clearly what is going on is more than just making a bit of noise occasionally.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
