WBAC knocked off a grand for painted bumper
Discussion
Took my R8 in for a valuation and they knocked a grand off the online price. They say the bumper has been painted. I guess it could have been painted before I bought the car, but it looks just as good as the paint everywhere else to me. And so what if it has? Isn't that a good thing and the right thing to do for a few years of stone chips?
I would expect most 6 year old sports cars to have painted front bumpers, if only to remove the stone chips.
Did they say they were knocking off the grand because it had been painted or because it would need doing again ?
As suggested above stick it on motorway - I’d be surprised if a dealer on Motorway can’t offer more.

"I guess it could have been painted before" So you've missed describe it online and been caught out when correctly appraised....
Is paint the issue or are they "covering" the potential for hidden accident damage? Granted it was probably a minor parking scuff but any excuse will do.

That's what I thought. It most definitely doesn't need a repaint. It could have been done by Audi or not at all. It just looks like it should to me. I can't believe any dealer will do anything to my paint work to sell the car on. I was just taken aback by the suggestion really.Did they say they were knocking off the grand because it had been painted or because it would need doing again ?

Surely a non painted R8 is worth more than a painted one?
If so I don’t really see the issue, aside from that you didn’t know. They are entitled to adjust the price accordingly, they aren’t a charity.
Of course they're a business and need make a profit. I don't have an issue with that at all. But I do have an issue with knocking a grand off something that can't be proved within reasonable effort. A non painted bumper on a 2015 car is likely to have chips and would devalue the car surely? Or are we saying a 2015 car should be as it left the garage when new? I can guarantee you that a dealer will not touch the paint on this car. It was only detailed late last year!If so I don’t really see the issue, aside from that you didn’t know. Ignore all this lot above. This is WBAC's standard operating model. As you've seen, you give them some very basic details online and they give you an attractive starting price. Their employee then checks it drives forwards and backwards without exploding, then does a close inspection for little stone chips and scratches and they have their little tool they apply to every single panel looking for excess paint thickness which they'll interpret as a respray. They deduct money from the online starting price for everything their employee can enter into their software.
That's completely normal for them. They almost never pay the figure the website originally indicates.
They may be more or less willing to concede they're being tw@ts in terms of price adjustment depending on how much they want your specific model.

Can we not speak for my own experience. I've sold 3 cars to WBAC. Twice I was paid what they offered online. Once I was knocked down, but it was fully expected and fair, as I couldn't sufficiently reflect the full condition. I expected it to be worth less than the online offer, but the actual price they gave me was still.more than I'd anticipated.
Of course, they don't give you the absolute best imaginable deal, nor do they claim to, but I've always found them fair and reasonable.

There's cars leaving the factory having needed a respray on a bumper... They don't crush the car if it gets a parking ding.
This is a good point as there are also cars coming from factory that get out of paint, are inspected and sent back. I've had detailing work on "new" from factory cars, straight off the transporter and in certain areas, the paint depth was all over the place. It seems this could be down to coverage or going back to be done again to correct imperfections as per discussions with dealerships as to why. But you aren't expecting a manufacturer to bare metal or flat an entire panel (bumper or otherwise) for a mistake like a run or pin holes, no, they flat it back, add another layer or two of paint and are done.
So your "repainted" bumper may well have been done by Audi themselves.
its just WBAC's business model, offer high, knock off what you can and move onto the next customer.
For an R8 i wouldn't be selling it to them anyway, sell it privately. You'd surely get more money for it? Just have to sift more idiots perhaps.
So just to update you. I took WBAC's money. Why? Because time was critical as I had made a last minute decision to...and I'm ready for the insults... buy a new iPace! I literally had less than a fortnight to sort it, as there was one car with the spec as I would want it and a 14 month wait otherwise. WBAC's offer was still better than Jag's, so I swallowed my pride and took the money.
The issue I have isn't actually their price, but the bulls
t they give you. Attached is a pic of my car the day before it went. It's not a close up, but you can see that it was an extremely tidy example. I literally had it detailed inside and out 6 months ago and I know a dealer will buy it and sell it without touching a thing because there's nothing to touch! I can also tell you the Santorini Black paint on the entire brand new iPace is not as good as my bumper was.
In a nutshell, had time been on my side, I'd have just waited for a private sale. But WBAC have found their niche and make it easy for the seller. Ease can lead to bending over to bite on the pillow!
