Are 0-60 times done using launch control? and therefore real world use in general stop to start at a traffic light is going to be 0.5-1+second more then that?

Also assuming you were wanting to do some 'spirited' driving with everything warmed up, and starting from standstill - is it just a case of immediately flooring the gas pedal or is there more technique to it e.g. slowly applying more force

Depends on the car and the setting. The manufactures times is what the car could do in best case scenario. Times are usually a second or so slower than figured in the real world due to poor tarmac, atmosphere pressure, wear etc.

They really aren't, in the world of Porsche anyhow, as most reviews you see will confirm.

Porsche for some reason seen to undersell their claims, whether that be BHP or 0-60 times.

Ensuring they have happy customers and downplaying the metric perhaps?

It really doesn't make much difference. On the road, the difference in distance gained, even with a few tenths theoretical difference in acceleration, is tiny. Point to point over a journey it's irrelevant.

They are done using launch control if the car has it.

This explains the 0.5ish second difference between PDK and manual cars, for example.

I can't comment on all models, but my 922 Targa GTS (PDK) 'officially' does 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds. There are various only video's showing it actually does 0-100kpm in between 3.2-3.3 seconds.

I'm sure I saw a video of a Turbo S doing 0-60 in near 2.5 seconds, whereas Porsche quote 2.7 seconds.

Personally, the acceleration is great, but its the speed in which they stop which impresses, as Porsche design all their cars to stop in half the time they accelerate to 60, so whilst it may take 2.7 seconds for a Turbo S to get to 60, it will get back to 0 in 1.35 seconds.

Think they may claim "less time" rather than "half the time".

Think your right.

For the Turbo S, the 0-60mph & 60-0mph figures are around the same.

Whatever it is though, they feel insanely quick at slowing down should you ever need to.

If you’ve got a manual box I think it’s pretty hard get below 4.5 to 60, no matter how much bhp you have. I’d be interested to know how others do.

My 991.2 runs at 506 bhp and to ‘launch’ it basically requires revving it up and dumping the clutch. There’s so much torque that 1st gear can’t even engage fully. I’m guessing I’d need an upgrade for something with more friction??

Anyway, PDK in the real world is miles faster for the traffic line GP. I just get the car rolling gently and then engage warp speed if inclined once rolling. My preference is still for the manual and I’m happy to leave all the golf Rs and Teslas to get on with their little races.
