As part of a whole house renovation I'm looking for some coving to put (dimmable) LED strip lighting in to illuminate the ceiling rather than having downlights. To give a muted subtle light in the lounge and snug.

A bit of searching has thrown up loads of options and choices - the first is the LED strip itself. That choice is easy, we want a spotless strip.

The second choice is far more complicated - the coving. there's loads of potential solutions ranging from Screwfix - 10m for £38

To this sort of slim aluminium stuff, which is far more expensive - but would appear to be a bit small as far as coving goes?

Any experiences with this sort of stuff or others suggestions??

I suppose it is obvious but the more LED's per metre gives a more even spot less light. More LEDs = more cost.

Dimmable is nice to have for very little extra.

Thanks - yes, the LED strip isn't an issue

It's more the various designs of coving - some look really small and I'm not sure would look right in the room.

I've used this company before:

https://www.hexim.de/led/stuckprofile

They do fairly large coving. Looking at the site, they now seem to have improved the design with a small edge to stick the LED tape too. Mine were stuck to the inside edge which limits light a little.

For me, it's the damage/breakages side of things.

Which product will you be able to get a good repair in 5-10 years?

I'd be sticking with anything eps/mdf based or suchlike.

Not sure if it's any help, but if you're already into Phillips Hue (or keen to start your addiction) then these could work in terms of the light strip itself:

This looks like it's worth investigating - did they charge for delivery to the UK or did you get a local supplier?

I started by asking for some samples from then and then when ready to order, I ordered direct and paid postage to UK. This was before Brexit. Tip; get their mitre box as I couldn't find one big enough here.

Did you manage to find a good solution for this? I'm looking for something similar.

If anyone can recommend an LED strip I’d be interested. Have something like this going in our kitchen.

LEDspace do a ‘seamless adjustable white’ LED strip.
Uniform light distribution over the length and a mix of warm/cool white LEDs meaning you can adjust the colour temperature to match your existing lights.
You’ll need a suitable driver / interface and you can choose from fit & forget to fully integrated home automation solution.

We ended up just using Screwfix coving with seamless LED strip that the sparky sourced. It's all fine 18 months in and works well. Fitted in two rooms.
