V12S Tyres?

My car (once the V5 has been sorted that is) has Pirelli tyres on but not the Corsas.

Just asking, are they as bad as they're made out to be? IIRC they're not half worn yet but have read a few posts where they're not rated overly good.

Sat here wondering whether to just put Michelins straight on the car. Had Michelins fitted to various cars but have no experience of how Pirellis are.

Out of the two it’s the Corsas that are the problem unless you live in a dry, warm country where they are great. The window for their operation in the UK is very small and that isn’t good enough for me. Mine has P zero on and they are fine but will probably change to Michelins next time because the consensus seems to be that they are better. No doubt someone will be along to explain why.

I never had any issues with running the non Corsas on my V12S and I used it daily throughout the year but as Ian said the Michelin's get only good reviews.
That said I have just got an irreparable puncture on my new R8 with 500 miles on the clock to be told there are no PS4S's expected to be available in the country for at least 2 months !

Same here really. I’ve got the standard P-Zeros (non Corsa) fitted to my V12V (not an S though) and I haven’t had any problems at all with them. Never had a car fitted with the Michelins so have no real view, apart from the fact that many on here swear by them, and they generally get good reviews. Personally I would have thought that for every day road driving it would be difficult to really notice any significant differences……about to get my coat as someone on here will no doubt know better though!

I find that the differences between the Standard P Zeros and the Michelin PS4S are as follows:

1. The Michelins switch on a bit sooner - it appears they have a wider temperature band of operation
2. The Michelins are quieter (by some way)
3. The small bump ride is slightly better on the Michelins
4. When properly hot the Pirellis seem to get the power down slightly better (not much in it though)
5. Breakaway is slightly more progressive on the Michelins

Both tyres are good.... but I think the Michelins edge it in every day use.

I ran my first two V12V's on corsa and always found them massively compromised for all year round use. Switched them to the std P-Zeros and had no issues.

My current V12VS came with std P-Zeros from new and I always found them just fine, no issues at all. Due in part to all the hype about the MPS4S and the fact they were cheaper than P-Zeros I swapped to them a year ago when the first set wore out.

I really cant say there is much difference at all, certainly no worse, but I would struggle to say they are materially any better. They were cheaper so I have no complaints.

I really wouldnt change a half worn set on the expectation you are going to see any improvement, as I think you will find yourself £900 worse off and dissapointed with your spend.

What areas exactly are you hoping to improve upon?

I wasn't hoping to improve on anything apart from having the tyres with the best recommendations from owners.

From the replies so far the Pirellis will be staying on.

Just to add. My 2014 V12S came with non Corsa Pirellis. Ran them for seven years and 15k miles - I was abroad for most of that hence the mileage. No issues at all.

Replaced them with Michelin PS4S less than a year ago, largely because of the hype and they were the same price.

The Michelins were better than the 7 year old Pirellis as you would expect - but not night and day better.

Anyway, earlier this year, due to some good fortune, I was offered a free set of new fitted Pirelli non Corsas. Of course I accepted and they’re now on the car, with the Michelins stacked in the garage waiting for me to wear out the Pirellis.

For fast road use I really can’t tell the difference, and that’s comparing new Pirelli with new Michelin. In future I’ll just get the best current deal I can on Pirelli, Michelin or Continental.

Had the normal P-Zeros on my V12S and changed to the Michellins mainly due to the hype. I was very skeptical but the difference was noticeable, on damp roads especially.

I’ve been running Corsa’s since I bought the car. They’re epic but I live in the South of France.
I’ve had a moment on a rainy day on the motorway though so I’m extremely careful when the conditions get colder and wet. But most of the time, they are suited for my use and the warmer climate I live in.
