Thought I'd ask on here as well as the Merc section as no replies yet.

My father in law is considering a facelift 2019/20 saloon. I'm not too clued up on Mercs and the C300 seems rare with there not being much owner's reviews and experiences on forums so wondering if anyone on here could chime in on what to look out for and common problems etc. For info, the other car on his shortlist is (if you hadn't guessed) a BMW 330i - the current G20 model. Many thanks.

I can't comment on the Merc, but I can comment on the 330i. One word: avoid. I have a 330i that's had about £4.5k of warranty work so far. I'm waiting for something else to break, and won't be running it without a warranty. When it breaks it usually spends at least a week waiting for parts, so I've had more than my fair share of loan cars from the local dealer.

I’m looking at them too but note that the new shape c class has a significantly more Advanced interior which has put me off the later models of the w205.

My friend has just bought a used 2016 C300 and an injector went within a week. Response from Merc was great and all done under warranty. Other than that, he's absolutely loving the car with no complaints.

What went wrong with it then?

So far.....

PCV system failed somehow, contaminated inlet manifold too - both replaced
Turbo Oil seals - turbo replaced
"Oil Filter Housing" (this is actually a water / oil heat exhanger made of censored plastic) - causing it to drop all its coolant

You hear that the B48 is reliable. In my experience it's really not that good.

The fact that BMW make a water / oil heat exchanger out of plastic tells me a lot, and it's not good.
