Hi Chaps,
I'd like your advice please. Buying a car "off premises" from main dealer - made an enquiry last Friday, liked the car, and well priced. Put a deposit down that following day. Negotiated home delivery before Jubilee bank holiday - provided I get finance and payments sorted by end of play Tuesday. Dealt with a manager who spoke highly of his returning customers and assurances I would be enjoying the car before the bank holiday.
All loose ends including finance and deposit sorted my end before close of play Tuesday. External finance company were fab (oracle). These bits were dealt by dealership salesman instead of manager. Was told delivery may be Wednesday or worst case scenario Thursday AM. Was told manager would call me and update me on delivery on Wednesday (today). In my line of work I need to make arrangements for cover if I'm to receive a car so took today (Wednesday PM) off in anticipation.
Wednesday arrives, No calls whatsoever. Left messages at 9.30am, 1pm. Dropped email querying delivery date/time - very blunt response that he is busy dealing with "end of month" and will call back. Informed that salesman advised manager would call me, this was "news to him". No calls. Called again at 4pm and managed to get through and he mentioned he had emailed logistics and will call me later this PM with an update.
No calls.
Thought I'd try again at 1815, receptionist told me she's sent him a message to call you back. Sat here like a chump at 1900.
Car wasnt cheap, £75k

Yes, I would be tempted by that.
I think sometimes they forget how exciting and important it is to us to get our new car and when you have to arrange logistics yourself it can be very frustrating.

This
No excuses for terrible customer service
I had similar last year. Delivery day no car. Following day. No car.
I walked away. They took over a month to give me my £35k back. I had to get the Motor Service Ombudsman involved.
If it’s the car of your dreams though you might want to try again. As once you have the car you won’t be dealing with them again unless there is some warranty issue.
Or you could look at it as. If there is so much messing around now. What might it be like if there is an issue with the car?!
One more chance + explanation + apology if it’s your dream car. I’d want something knocked off if you are paying for delivery. Something about lost earnings by taking time off work.
Good luck
If it’s a car that’s not too hard find, I agree with the above, email to cancel and ask for your deposit back on the grounds they didn’t uphold their end of the agreement.
If it’s rare, or there’s something about this specific car that’s worth waiting for, just push them hard and express your disappointment. There’s no point in losing the right car for the sake of a few days and some poor CS, however much it stings.
