HI Guys

Anyone running V8D's 4.6 engine in their Chim? I am loving 1st year driving in my car after the long build! Many tasteful upgrades and although the very pretty/shining looking standard 4.0 is good - I cant help but start looking at a bigger bases engine I can play with over future years.

I would be keen to hear anyones thoughts -

Just a recap -

The V8D warrior set up is good, they certainly know what they are doing.

Also, I believe you can change yours to a 4.6 by simply changing some of the internals for 4.6 spec - I think it is the crank you need to change, and possibly the pistons, but I am to engine building what Bob the Builder is to needlework..
Talk to someone who knows.
All I know is that the blocks are interchangeable and the heads will be fine too. A camshaft with either more top end, or more mid-range grunt, depending on your driving style, would complete the picture. Should take you from 230 bhp to around 275, and a lot more torque.

You can spend a lot of money getting to 350 bhp NA, so PLEASE go to club meetings etc and drive/passenger in other people's cars that have already had the work done before you spend your own hard earned.

Even the standard 4 litre is a good car. You may go "WOWEEE" when in a 350 bhp 5 litre, but you may also think "and.....?" Only you will know.

Thanks Anthony, good advice. I’m presuming they have a pretty good rep so I will give V8D a ring tomorrow and go from there.

Hope all good with you!

Hi, couple of points to consider. I believe the 4.6 was Range Rover standard block, so availability good. Bit of a downer though, sharing a block with a Range Rover?

I would consider if you want to stick with originality? Is that a thing for TVRs yet? Certainly it hasn’t been, but in the long term will original be better?

Otherwise, if V8D do the swap, check what happens to your old block, is it yours to take away and sell, or theirs to do the same?

I had a 4.6 fitted to my previous Griff. It certainly went well, but, in the end I regretted losing the 4.3 block that it was swapped for.

Thought all the Rover v8 powered TVR,s were Range Rover blocks? Some had even had the same internals smile. Can’t see that as a bad thing though. Nothing worse trying to repair/restore something that has one off specific parts.
Biggest standard Buick Range Rover engine was a 4.6. Lots of cranks, rods and pistons for those.
All says reasonable power with reasonable money

I had my 4.6 delivered back from them last month. Now its up and running properly I'm absolutely over the moon. So smooth with lovely power delivery.

Its still very early on as I've only run in the cam and done about 10 miles on the road so no full throttle runs etc etc. But genuinely couldn't be happier !

It isn't the Warrior build, but one step down. Torque Master as they now call it I believe.

And to answer a question from above, the blocks are done on an exchange basis, so you don't keep yours as well as having the new engine. But you can request that they do the work to your specific block so you get the same one back. Least they offered that to me !

My build was:

4.6L Top hat linered block
New pistons
New piston rings
New main bearings
New big End bearings
New cam bearings
New core plugs
Fully balanced assembly
Pocketing of pistons
Stealth cam kit
-Stealth camshaft
-Timing chain set
High rev Lifters
Running in oil and additive
Cam retaining plate
Comp head gaskets
Comp head bolts
Torque master spec big valve heads
Torque master spec porting
Large valves
New guides
New valve stem seals
New double valve springs
All required gaskets and seals
Labour

On top of that I also had:

Fully refurbished rocker assemblies
Adjustable pushrods
Recon front cover, including new oil pump gear and uprated oil pressure relief valve kit, recon exchange sump

So far its exactly what I was after. I didn't want a crazy build, just something that would start every time no matter the circumstances, was quicker than before but not outrageous, and ultimately reliable.

Well I’m sold! Thanks for that! Sounds like I’m definitely calling them tomorrow!

V8D have just done a similar rebuild for me, warrior heads, stealth cam etc (but it did take a while...) and its currently with Joo at kits'n'classics to have the old KMS ecu replaced with an Emerald and then be remapped. I'll update once I have driven it, hopefully in a couple of weeks.

I had a Steath cam when I had my 5 litre engine built by them.
Loads of mid-range torque. Suited my why-bother-changing-gear-unless-you-have-to motorway driving style.

See I like that as a name. It describes what you might expect to get.
My favourite has to be “Stump puller”
That’s genius
As for 885,,, Dom needs to be more creative.
I like the one they call the Dominator rofl or is that a set of heads with a bloody name scratchchin
That not only frightens me as I only have the lowly named 885 but at least describes what surely must be a peaky high lift jobbie.
I find the names a bit childish at best and when Mac shakes his head at it all, ultimately very amusing.
Very funny biggrin
