Discussion
Hi all, so the wife and I are wanting to start our caravanning journey, we didn’t enjoy travelling abroad before covid and having two years of holidaying in the U.K. in statics we’re eager to get something of our own that we can stock up and go.
We have a little boy, and planning another addition so want the van to be somewhat future proof - say 5 years
At the moment I really like the idea of fixed rear bunks with the dinette. I don’t think we’d ever sit there and eat but being able to shut the boy in there would be perfect as there’s no way he’ll sleep in an open lounge are
Any suggestions on what to look for? So many different ranges I’m a bit lost!
Want to spend about £15k roughly, and will be waiting till November as that’s my next invoice payment so hopefully a good time to buy

Get yourself to a retailer and look at as many different layouts as possible.
We started with a van with fixed bunks but kids grow quickly and what`s fun initially gets cramped pretty quickly.
We ended up with a van with twin fixed beds that the kids liked until they were around 13 when they decided that they really wanted their own space, van sold earlier this year for good money.
We`ll buy another when the kids do the decent thing and move out.

I like the move towards innovative smaller vans that will also work with EVs in the future.
Check out the (British) Freedom Carpento range, this is the rear bunk view of the diminutive 360:

wow that's a clean looking van for sure. Check out the (British) Freedom Carpento range, this is the rear bunk view of the diminutive 360:

have to have a better look.
We have looked at the fixed single beds and you're right, much more longevity there
They are a UK co. but the website images show the door on the wrong side. Although I'm sure I've seen vids with it on the correct side.
ETA: Correct, Andrew Ditton has a good vid on the 360: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOKLzH5FAV8
We're already booked for the Motorhome and Caravan show at NEC in October to hopefully choose our next (and much smaller) 'van.
