I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of owning or seeing a 2016 M240i with the official M performance exhaust upgrade?

I've been on the Official BMW M performance parts catalogue and when I enter my car details they list an M Performace exhaust but I have spoken to the local BMW dealer and they claim BMW don't make one for the 16 plate M240i even though I provided them the part number from BMW.

I do suspect the local dealer are just pretty useless and i'm tempted to try another but I was wondering if anyone can let me know if the dealer is correct or not?

Thanks

I cannot answer on whether it’s possible but I would suggest Akropovic, Remus etc. as suitable and possibly even better alternatives.

Not every dealership is clued up. I’d give Cotswolds BMW Parts a call. They are extremely knowledgeable on parts. Then find a dealership that is happy to fit M parts if you insist on an M performance exhaust.

The only cars incompatible with the MPE I believe are the OPF cars from late 2018 onwards

Thanks for the replies.

I think the dealership don't want to do the work or aren't properly clued up.

I'm thinking I'll just go aftermarket now though. I'm losing faith in the main dealers to do anything really. It's a dame because I love the BMW cars but the dealers I have dealt with are awful in the main

Manual by any chance? BMW never listed the M Performance exhaust for a manual M140i, could be the same for the M240i.

It is a manual yes, may explain it. I did read on the Baby Bimmer forum which I found through google that BMW are also now not officially supplying louder exhausts than standard as it's against EU regulations but not sure how true that is.

I'm looking at Miltek which I have used before on other cars or Remus currently, swaying towards Miltek due to previous experiences

It was something to do with the drone at motorway speeds in a manual it was never an official option. Many have fitted one though without issue.

That would make sense although I don't think the drone is there personally, based on driving my mates 135i manual with the M performance exhaust on a motorway.

Thank you for the comment though, appreciated

MPPSK is for 340i/440i

MPE should be possible for all others as its just the backbox

I had m performance exhaust fitted to my 140 (manual) 2017 by main dealer and I suffer from no drone, although my wife is not a fan of the loud cold start, but I disagree with her. I’m a big fan myself and it always make me smile without being too aggressive

If it’s the same reason as mini as of nov 2016 it’s something to do with noise levels and eu and even though they fit the dealers won’t supply them

As I’m aware, the M135i MPE retains the valve whereas the 1/240i doesn’t, so I would assume the 135i to be quieter in Comfort or with valve closed.

I have an MPE on my 2018 ZF8 M140i, and although I wouldn’t call it droney, it’s definitely louder than stock when cruising in 8th at 70-80mph.

Does sound great on full chat though!
