I used to be a techie, I'm now completely hands off. This was what I wanted, and is the direction of travel which will likely to continue.

However, I miss the certain elements of coding, analysis and adminstration.

I would like to do a few hours a week/month in this realm as a volunteer.

Does anyone know of any forum or site where there may be demand for this type of thing ?

sounds like you could do a DBA role for a charity or something

that would typically require only a few days a week and if they are big enough, could have some meaty stuff to get into.

i was a DBA a long time ago (Oracle) but I do it in support of a friends startup using Azure SQL server - the basics are the same, but you can play with more modern db suff (like cosmos) as well with little overhead...online training etc

just a thought

I work for a charity and we're just embarking on a large data cleaning project which I'd love additional technical assistance on but can't get the budget. Happy to have a chat to see if your skill set matches?!..

Thanks guys

Nekrum I've dropped you an IM, sounds exciting !

Tuscan_raider - I actually dropped the database stuff for Azure which lead to Managing Dev, DevOps and a splash of Architecture teams at some scale. I don't miss being hands on in Azure though, just doesn't have the same flavour as poor data quality, failing backups and missing indexes. It's all far too easy these days ! smile
