Heading up to the Lake District (Ullswater) in the fun car next week. Any roads which are a must drive to avoid the motorway monotony?

Try and avoid Staffordshire at all costs, miles and miles of boredom @ 60 mph.

A1(M) can be a good shout through Yorkshire then over to the Lakes via Barnard Castle etc.

Loads of ace B roads not far off the main drag.

Head west to avoid the Humber bridge
