Hi, anybody out there !! Does any body know were the petrol gaauge sender is situated- The Bible says its on yhe top right hand side of the tank.- Well on my 4.0 pre-cat 1992, its not there, does anybody know of any other hiding places for it!!

Regards Phil

Are PANIC might be over I think I found it on the left hand side about half way down. The two wires attached look good but the petrol gauge still reads empty-when I know its 3/4 full! ANY ideas.

Hi Phil, if you connect the two wires together when disconnected from sender unit, fuel gauge should move to full position, if so wiring circuit ok - faulty sender unit. If gauge does not move suspect- faulty gauge, feed to gauge, output between gauge and sender or faulty earth on sender unit.
Hope this helps.

It can be fixed, well id did mine 96(so yours may be different).
Basically I took the sender out of the Tank make sure your petrol is lower than the sender level.
There is a contact that runs across some wires, if thse wires are broken you need to change the sender. If not then its probable the contact thats not meeting the wires, gently push it against the wires. You can test it wired up out the car while looking at the guauge.
If you can by taking it in and out of the tank you can bend the float to read full/empty whille still connected to the guage and get a more precise reading

Unfortunately the side-mounted location of the early senders means removal is a tank out job. This must be the only advantage of a 500 over the precat...
