After AML announced their withdrawal from WEC sports car racing, I presumed that then just left the customer teams racing Vantages. Whether AML provide any financial support to the customers, I don't know.
Prodrive always ran the AMR team and presumably they do preparation for some of the customer teams.

An Aston Martin winning the LMGTE AM (i.e. the 'slowest' of the 4 classes) at the LM24 driver by an American, a Portugese and a Dane is never going to make the news in the UK. The very brief write up on the BBC website only mentions the LMGTE AM because Michael Fassbender finished 51st overall

I followed a good bunch of the race, was really excited to see TF Sport winning it. Also Northwest did a great job arriving third!

Anyway, if you think about it, at start there were just 3 Astons against a sea of Porsches and Ferraris, and 2 managed to get 1st and 3rd. A fantastic result if you ask me.

A brilliant result, deserves much more publicity and success in this arena would do far more good for AML than F1, whatever happens there. Le Mans looks like motor racing, F1 to me, doesn't.
What about a Vantage Le Mans Edition? Hunter grille, like the picture, they can get 697hp out of the V8 engine as we see from the DBX 707, use the 4Horsemen racing team colours, bonnet scoops, big wing, it would be a world beater. Who wouldn't want one of them?
Any idea what kind of transmission they use?

Paul Dalla Lana, Vantage #98, has a long history with Prodrive and Aston Martin, as the 'non-professional' (GTE-Am) of the three drivers and car owner.
He won the WEC class championship in 2017, with the VH version of the GTE car.

Yes, but the class which looks most like the road going vehicle, which in the end is really the point. LMP is just a long road to nowhere, just like F1. EVR said:

Totally agree. What is even more remarkable is the ground the winning car made up after a poor qualy.The F1 programme is simply a rebadged car, it's not an Aston. But the international exposure the brand gets from being somewhere in the middle of the F1 field, and from supplying the safety & medical cars, will far outweigh whatever they got from when they were successful in the WEC or at the LM24. It's either that business decision or the ego of Mr Stroll which thinks F1 is the place to be...............
But looking at the share price and the volumes of cars sold I would say the increased brand awareness promised from F1 is not resulting in increased car sales and therefore increased value for shareholders (outside the Stroll family & friends)

It's interesting that Porsche and Audi have done very nicely thank you from being successful in WEC and LM24 without going near F1 (yet). Aston should always have made a lot more noise about their GT success against direct rivals such as Porsche and Ferrari.
As mentioned above, I think Mr Stroll's ego had a lot to do with influencing the business case for entering F1.

As already mentioned, the Le Mans Prototype cars have no resemblance to road cars (well except the Aston Martin Valkyrie), but watching the prototype onboard videos can be exciting. A full race Vantage GTE would be called fast, but when passed by a prototype, it no longer appears fast.
On board night time videos also give a realistic impression of speed (more so when live), especially when overtaking, or braking unbelievably late into the Musanne chicanes.
