Your Ebay sale ad - not actually live
Discussion
I don't know if this is old news to you folks, but was new news to me. Listed my car on Ebay yesterday and checked the activity page today to see how many views and watchers. Both numbers at 0! The ad shows as live in my portal and when I click on it, but when doing a search for the exact ad title from a different device, sorted by 'newly listed', it doesn't show up anywhere.
Got on the live chat with Nitesh from Bangalore
and asked what was going on. He replied with some blurb about how their site indexing bot works and it's "normal" to take between 24 and 36 hours for your ad to actually be indexed so that it comes up in user searches! Funny, no mention of this when creating your ad or submitting it.
I asked whether there would be a proportionate reduction or refund in the listing fee, seeing as 14-21% of the listing period ad space you've paid for isn't actually live on their site. All he could offer was a free relisting "goodwill gesture" for the same period if the car hadn't sold by the end of the first listing, which isn't a solution to the problem but better than nothing I suppose.
Short version : if you list stuff on Ebay, it can be another day and a half before it actually appears live on the site to anyone searching for it.
Thought I'd mention it in case anyone else ends up in the same position wondering why their ad doesn't have any views or watchers!
