I have a 1995 993 cab. Some part of the power steering is broken as every few weeks it makes an awful noise when cornering, once the oil is topped up at the back it is ok again. There is a small oil leak coming from the front of the car. The garage is saying this will cost around £1000 to replace the broken part. Does this sound about right or not really? Any advice is v welcome.

Thanks

If ur rack is on the way out , either leaks gently from end of rubber gaiters of rack and /or goes all at once in which case steering feels very heavy ...........basically the seal/s at the end of the rack are leaking ...................if u fill it up will last a while but if it runs dry it ll be a pump as well ! Thats almost dry when u hear the grinding noise !!
A proper recon unit at an opc abt £900 includes front geometry , which u will need [ thats cheapest i got when they were prepared to 'do a deal' less from a good independant ....................

My indie quoted a lot less than that - £500 for a recon rack and fitting (for my 993 C2).

Thanks Very

This is with a BMW/Audi/Porsche dealer for a new part so I guess I will be paying top dollar. I am in Switzerland at the moment and my french is rubbish so I thought it best to go to the big boys.

Not too far from N yon but far enough to not be possible, thanks though.

They want CHF2400 so around about £1000, I guess from what you say that is about right especially for a main dealer.

Thanks for all the advice.
