Got a set of 4x Alpina reps that have been sitting gathering dust for ages. Decided I'll be chucking them on eBay at some point.

Gave them a clear today and took some details for the listing.

They are 17 x 7.5J and seemingly an offset of 38 (+38 is printed on the alloy, so assume that it).

By comparison I have a set of genuine Alpinas which are 17 x 8J. They are labelled e46 (assume offset 46?)

I've tried to cross reference the rep size/spec on: http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/ but struggling to find a match.

These Alpina reps were on the E36 328i Touring when I bought it. I have vague recollections, it may have come with spigot rings attached.

I don't want to advertise the wheels as being bolt on 'as is' on an E36 or E46 (as I would for the genuine Alpinas). Anyone got any ideas about the odd sizing?

TIA smile

If they were on the E36 with spigot rings, are the centre bores 74.1 then (a la E39) or are they around 88 (a bit like BBS alloys)

Offset is ideal for an E46; would have them sitting well under the arches, but no good for an E39 which need to be around 25 and lower

Will that be printed on the rim somewhere (or am I having to get the tape measure out)?

According to my tape measure ~ 72ish (for both the genuine Alpinas and the reps)

Quick google suggests bore on both the E46 and E36 is 72.5.

Give the above, will ET38 fit ok on an E46/E36?

Yes. Standard OEM BMW centre bore is 72.6 - the E39 was the odd one out at 74.1

E46 offsets are c45 and down to 30 IIRC, maybe 35

Sp these Alpina's will work well as they'll be more flush to the arches but without being stupid

If it widens your audience if they fit an E46 they'll fit an E85/86 Z4 as they had the same sizes and offsets.

With a set of wheel spacers (anywhere from 15-20mm) they'd look right at home on an E90. Coincidentally, I have a set of 18mm spacers sitting... and an E90.

biggrin

They are reps, but they seem reasonable. Certainly not perfect, kerb rash etc and probably could stand to do with a refurb.

Tyres are definitely a write off, would not advise anyone to use those. The wheels have not been on a car for probably 8 years I'd guess.

(If interested, chuck me a PM and I can send you more/better photos/deets).

E46 offset for the standard 8" wide 17" wheel is 47mm, but for the 7.5" wide front Style 68 17" it's 41mm. As it's measured from the centreline, they end up within the same distance from the arch. (Half an inch is 25.2/2 or 12.6mm, so the outer rim of that is 6.3mm closer to the centreline, countering the 6mm difference in offset). So these 7.5" Alpina reps at ET 38mm will only be 3mm closer to the arches than the regular 8" 17s.
