18 plate clio any good?

Im looking to buy a new car ideally an automatic and economical, sat nav would be a bonus too. With the high prices these days its hard to get something low mileage but ive seen an 18 plate clio gt line 1.5 dci with only 20000 on the clock. I know people say french cars arent the best but i do look after my cars and have them serviced every year also. Does anyone have experience of owning a clio? If so are they fairly reliable? Nice to drive? Etc

Thye've been putting that engine in cars for years so it can't be that bad.

The 1.5dci is well proven as is the whole car & in GT Line trim it's a nice place to be.

We have German cars as our main cars now and our children both have clios, one of which is this same engine it has been faultless.

Years ago, we had an 08 megane with that engine and when that got wiped out by some deer, we purchased another 58 megane with that same engine. Absolutely loved them. Super reliable, super economical and so comfortable too.
We serviced them and did everything needed as and when and they never, ever failed on us once.

As long as it’s been serviced as it should and it’s first couple of MOT history details all look ok, take a test drive and see what you think. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I think the cambelt is due at 60 months so bare that in mind, batteries very rarely make 3-4 years., we have seen a couple break springs too.

I have the same engine in my 07 Megane, I changed the battery last year and it was still the original, 14 year old one.

What sort of mileage do you do, if you only do short journeys I would not get a diesel due to the DPF getting clogged.

Maybe 7000 to 8000 miles per year

Current Nissans and Renaults won't last that long, AGM or EFB batteries are designed for multiple starts not a long shelf life.

Unless it's a couple of 60 mile journeys each week I'd leave diesel well alone.

We have an 18 plate Clio (our 2nd one so that says something I guess), it's the 3 cylinder petrol turbo not the diesel, great little car for around town and punchy when the turbo kicks in, I would imagine the diesel version would be good for longer journeys, ours has DAB, Bluetooth, etc, nothing has gone wrong with it.

We have a couple of cars with the 1.5dCi.

My daily is a 2016 Clio automatic which I've taken from 6k to 80k in 3 years and its been faultless - it actually drives quite well for what it is.

We also have a Dacia with this engine that's now on 140k odd and has also been faultless.
