Hello, obligatory 'first post here', so I hope this is the right place to post.

Have done some Googling, watched some YouTube videos but alas, I can't seem to find much on this issue I have. Either it's a huge co-incidence or maybe it's rare?

I have a 2015 Audi A4 Avant Black Edition 150PS, owned it for just over a year. Had a front passenger wheel bearing fixed and the rear wiper electronics fixed under a 3rd party warranty during this time, but otherwise no problems. Classic timing.... just after the 12 month warranty ran out, my air conditioning stopped working. So I purchased a basic bluetooth ODB2 scanner off eBay, plugged it in, connected and let it run a diagnostic. The ODB2 scanner looks like an off-brand cheap thing but a bit of Googling suggested that as long as it connected and could read stuff, being cheap didn't matter. I used the iOS app 'Car Scanner' to connect to the ODB2 scanner.

The ODB2 scanner ran and returned zero fault codes. I have no experience with this but thought either a) it wasn't working correctly or b) the A/C failed in such a way that it wasn't generating a code. No biggie.

However, when I took the car for the next drive, a series of issues came up;

1. I noticed that cruise control function was no longer working
2. I noticed that the auto start / stop function had stopped working, and returns an error on the dashboard when I try to manually press the button for it
3. The hill assist had stopped working
4. The dash notificaiton for gear change up/down had stopped working

These are all functions that I notice each time I drive the car, having come from an older vehicle with none of this - I use them all. I do know that some issues can be caused by a failing battery which if below a certain output, can impact some aspects of a car, and I understand that it's entirely possible that these issues could be impacted by some such issue that has a knock on effect, or these functions are dependent on something else, and it's caused a daisy chain effect of issues. Or I've had 4 independent failures at the same time. I have no idea.

I wanted to post here for some friendly advice before taking it into my local VAG independent garage, in case there is something else I can try first. I know the garage can run a proper dianostic and I've read elsewhere that it's possible to reset car config if it's been deleted (IF this is what has happened), but if nothing else I'll get an idea of what the damage is to fix.

Any advice welcomed, and thank you for your time to read this.

Alex

Welcome to PH.

Cheap generic OBD code readers often wont pick up non engine related codes such as Aircon or airbag faults.

As you suggest it may be a low battery charge causing these faults.

As above, get the battery checked. It is an Audi so “they all do that sir”, from a bitter ex Audi owner!

Interesting that most if not all of the above circuits might require a speed signal

Thank you for the replies!

I will get the battery checked, and good point about them all being speed related, I hadn't made that association.

@BlindedByTheLights this is my first Audi since an Audi 80 way back when! I will bear this warning in mind... thank you

@Scrump, I didn't know that, thanks for the tip. Maybe worth investing a bit more money into something better.

I will make sure to post the result once I get it sorted. Not an urgent issue so I'll probably wait until I have a day off to book it in. Hopefully not going to cost an arm and a leg but I will expect the worst lol

My best advice would be don’t book it into Audi unless it is warranty work. Find a good local specialist
